“ So desert creatures and hyenas will live there, and there the owl will dwell. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.

“ Soon Babylon will be inhabited by desert animals and hyenas. It will be a home for owls. Never again will people live there; it will lie desolate forever.

Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves will dwell there. The ostriches will dwell therein; and it will be inhabited no more forever; neither will it be lived in from generation to generation.

他用強有力的聲音喊著說：「巴比倫大城倒塌了！倒塌了！她成了鬼魔的住處、各樣污鬼的監獄和一切可憎的不潔鳥獸的牢籠！

七十年後，我要報應巴比倫王和他國民迦勒底人的罪，使他們的土地永遠荒涼。這是耶和華說的。

鵜鶘和刺蝟必佔據那裡，貓頭鷹和烏鴉必在那裡做窩。耶和華要用準繩和線錘丈量以東，使它空虛混沌。以東沒有一個顯貴可以做王，那裡所有的首領全都消失。那裡的宮殿荊棘叢生，蒺藜、刺草遍佈堅城，成了野狗的巢穴和鴕鳥的住處。在那裡，豺狼和曠野的其他走獸出沒，野山羊對叫，夜間的怪物棲息，找到安歇之處。貓頭鷹要在那裡做窩，產卵，孵化，把幼鳥保護在翅膀底下，鷙鳥也成雙成對地聚集在那裡。你們要去查考、閱讀耶和華的書卷：以上的動物一個也不會少，無一缺少配偶。因為這是耶和華親口說的，祂的靈必把牠們聚在一起。祂親手為牠們抽籤，用準繩為牠們分地。牠們必永遠佔據那裡，世世代代住在那裡。

她的城邑淪為乾旱的荒漠，杳無人跡。

這時，有一位大力天使舉起一塊像大磨石的石頭扔進海裡，說：「巴比倫大城也必這樣被用力扔下去，消失得無影無蹤。在你那裡，再也聽不見彈琴作樂、鳴笛吹號的聲音了，再也找不到能工巧匠了，再也聽不到推磨的聲音了，再也看不到閃耀的燈光了，再也聽不見新婚夫婦的歡笑聲了。因為你的商人曾經趾高氣揚，你的邪術曾經迷惑萬國，你的城牆內流滿了眾先知、眾聖徒和地上一切被殺之人的血。」

再無人用你的石頭做房角石或基石，你要永遠荒涼。這是耶和華說的。

巴比倫必淪為廢墟，杳無人跡，淪為豺狼出沒的地方，令人驚懼、嗤笑。迦勒底人像群獅一樣怒吼，又像幼獅一樣咆哮。

生養你們的母親巴比倫將羞愧難當，蒙受恥辱，排在列國之末，淪為乾旱的荒漠。由於耶和華的憤怒，巴比倫必無人居住，荒涼不堪。她滿目瘡痍，令路人驚懼、嗤笑。
