竟高抬自己，敵對天上的主，使人把他殿中的器皿拿到你面前來，你和你的大臣、妻妾、妃嬪用這些器皿喝酒；你又讚美那些不能看見、不能聽見、甚麼都不能知道，用金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石所做的神，卻沒有把榮耀歸給那手中有你的氣息，和那掌管你一切命途的神。

“巴比倫哪！我設下網羅捉拿你，你被捉住，仍不自覺；你被發現，也被抓住，因為你和耶和華爭鬥。”

因為他們曾流聖徒和先知的血，現在你給他們血喝，這是他們該受的。”

將要被毀滅的（“將要被毀滅的”有古譯本作“毀滅者”）巴比倫城（“城”原文作“女子”）啊！照著你待我們的行為報復你的，那人有福了。抓住你的嬰孩摔在磐石上的，那人有福了。

“那王必任意而行，自高自大，超過所有的神，又說一些怪誕的話攻擊萬神之神。他必行事順利，直到神的忿怒完畢；因為所定的事必會實現。

你們要從四面八方攻擊巴比倫，打開它的穀倉，把它堆起來好像堆穀物一樣；把它徹底消滅，甚麼都不留下。

你辱罵誰、褻瀆誰？你揚起聲音，又高舉眼目，要攻擊誰？就是攻擊以色列的聖者。

他抵擋神，抬舉自己，高過一切稱為神或受人敬拜的，甚至坐在神的殿中，自稱為神。
