亚罗珥的居民啊！你们要站在路旁观望，询问逃难的男女究竟发生了什么事。

那人對以利說：「我是從軍陣中來的，我今天剛從軍陣中逃出來。」以利就問：「我兒，情況怎麼樣？」

他來到的時候，看哪，以利正坐在路旁的座位上守望，因為他為神的約櫃憂心。那人進城裡報信時，全城都哀叫起來。以利聽見呼號的聲音，就問：「這喧囂的聲音是怎麼回事呢？」那人趕快過來，向以利報告。

那時，大衛正坐在內外城門之間，守望的人上了城門樓樓頂，舉目觀看，看哪，有一個人獨自跑來。守望的人就喊叫，向王報告。王說：「如果只有他一個人，報的就是好消息。」那人越來越近了。守望的人又看見另外一個人跑來，就對門衛呼喊，說：「看哪，又有一個人獨自跑來！」王說：「這也是來報好消息的。」守望的人說：「我看第一個人的跑法像撒督的兒子亞希瑪斯的跑法。」王說：「這是個好人，他一定帶來好消息。」亞希瑪斯向王呼叫說：「平安！」然後臉伏於地向王下拜。他說：「耶和華你的神是當受頌讚的！他把揮手攻擊我主我王的人交給王了。」王就問：「那年輕人押沙龍平安嗎？」亞希瑪斯說：「約押差遣王的臣僕——你僕人時，我看見有大喧鬧，卻不知道是什麼事。」王說：「你過去站在一旁！」他就過去站在一旁。這時，看哪，那庫實人到了。他說：「向我主我王報好消息：今天耶和華救你脫離了一切起來攻擊你之人的手！」王問那庫實人：「年輕人押沙龍平安嗎？」那庫實人說：「願我主我王的仇敵和一切起來要加害你的人，都像那年輕人一樣。」

大衛問他：「你從哪裡來？」他回答大衛：「我從以色列的營地逃了出來。」大衛又問：「情況怎麼樣？請告訴我！」他回答：「軍兵從戰場上逃跑，軍兵當中有很多人倒下陣亡，掃羅和他的兒子約拿單也死了。」

他們渡過約旦河，在亞羅珥城南邊的溪谷中紮營，又前往迦得的雅謝；
