Mourn for her, all who live around her, all who know her fame; say,‘ How broken is the mighty scepter, how broken the glorious staff!’

All you who live around it, mourn for its people. Be sad, you who know how famous Moab is. Say,‘ Its powerful ruler’s scepter is broken! His glorious scepter is smashed.’

Grieve for him, all you who are around him, and all who know his name; say,‘ How the mighty scepter is broken, the glorious staff.’

You friends of Moab, weep for him and cry! See how the strong scepter is broken, how the beautiful staff is shattered!

The fruits which your soul lusted after have been lost to you. All things that were dainty and sumptuous have perished from you, and you will find them no more at all.The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, will stand far away for the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning,saying,‘ Woe, woe, the great city, she who was dressed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls!For in an hour such great riches are made desolate.’ Every ship master, and everyone who sails anywhere, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood far away,and cried out as they looked at the smoke of her burning, saying,‘ What is like the great city?’They cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying,‘ Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had their ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her great wealth!’ For she is made desolate in one hour.“ Rejoice over her, O heaven, you saints, apostles, and prophets; for God has judged your judgment on her.”

Therefore I will wail for Moab. Yes, I will cry out for all Moab. They will mourn for the men of Kir Heres.With more than the weeping of Jazer I will weep for you, vine of Sibmah. Your branches passed over the sea. They reached even to the sea of Jazer. The destroyer has fallen on your summer fruits and on your vintage.Gladness and joy is taken away from the fruitful field and from the land of Moab. I have caused wine to cease from the wine presses. No one will tread with shouting. The shouting will be no shouting.

It had strong branches for the scepters of those who ruled. Their stature was exalted among the thick boughs. They were seen in their height with the multitude of their branches.But it was plucked up in fury. It was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit. Its strong branches were broken off and withered. The fire consumed them.Now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land.Fire has gone out of its branches. It has devoured its fruit, so that there is in it no strong branch to be a scepter to rule.’ This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.”

Yahweh of Armies says,“ Consider, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skillful women, that they may come.Let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion,‘ How we are ruined! We are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.’”Yet hear Yahweh’s word, you women. Let your ear receive the word of his mouth. Teach your daughters wailing, and everyone teach her neighbor a lamentation.

that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say,“ How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city has ceased!”Yahweh has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers,

“ How it is broken down! How they wail! How Moab has turned the back with shame! So will Moab become a derision and a terror to all who are around him.”
