原來，主使亞蘭人聽見大隊人馬和戰車的聲音。他們以為以色列王雇用了赫人的諸王和埃及人的諸王來攻營，便在傍晚時分撇下帳篷、馬和驢，棄營而逃。

你們的勇士為何仆倒？他們無法堅立，因為耶和華擊倒了他們，

我在他們面前揮刀攻擊你的時候，各國的人都必因你而驚駭，他們的君王必膽戰心驚。在你傾覆那天，他們都必時刻為自己的性命戰戰兢兢。』

到了城外，其中一位天使說：「趕快逃！不要回頭看，也不要留在平原，要往山上逃，免得你們被毀滅。」

地上的君王、顯貴、將領、富豪、有勢力的、一切奴隸和自由人都躲藏在山洞裡和岩穴間。他們哀求群山和岩石，說：「倒下來遮蓋我們，將我們藏起來吧！我們不敢面對寶座上的那位和羔羊的烈怒啊！因為祂們發烈怒的大日子到了，誰能站得住呢？」
