你能強過底比斯嗎？底比斯位於尼羅河上，四面環水，水是她的屏障，又是她的城牆。古實和埃及是她無窮的力量，弗人和利比亞人是她的幫手。可是，她卻被擄到遠方，她的嬰孩被摔死在各個街頭。她的官長被抽籤瓜分，她所有的首領都被鎖鏈鎖著。

到那日，魚門必傳出哭喊聲，新區必響起哀號聲，山陵必發出崩裂的巨響。這是耶和華說的。

你們將不是被擄就是被殺。雖然如此，耶和華的怒氣還沒有止息，祂降罰的手沒有收回。

那些沒有死的人都飽受毒瘡的折磨，城中的哭喊聲上達於天。

「從巴比倫——迦勒底人的土地上傳來哭喊聲和毀滅聲，

以東傾覆的聲音震動大地，哭喊聲直傳到紅海。
