Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.’”

北方諸王、相離或遠或近、及天下萬邦、厥後示沙克示沙克即巴比倫王亦必飲之、

故我告爾、勿為生命憂慮何以食、何以飲、勿為身體憂慮何以衣、生命不重於糧乎、身體不重於衣乎、試觀空中之鳥、不稼不穡、不積於倉、爾在天之父且養之、爾曹不更貴於鳥乎、爾曹中孰能以思慮延命一刻乎、爾何為衣服憂慮乎、試觀野地之百合花、如何而長、不勞不紡、我告爾、即所羅門極榮華時、其服飾不及此花之一、且夫野草、今日尚存、明日投爐、天主衣被之若此、況爾小信者乎、故勿慮云、何以食、何以飲、何以衣、此皆異邦人所求、爾需此諸物、爾在天之父、已知之矣、

天主見世間敗壞、在地凡有血氣者所行皆邪僻、

蓋主將行刑、以火以刃、懲罰凡有血氣者、遭主戮者甚多、

曰、彼下車轉而迎爾時、我心豈不偕爾往乎、此時豈可受銀與衣、以購油果園、葡萄園、牛、羊、僕婢乎、

我思因今時之患難、人能守素安常為美、爾有妻、則勿思離、爾無妻、則勿思娶、爾若娶、非犯罪、童女若嫁、亦非犯罪、但如此之人、身必受難、但我不忍使爾憂愁、兄弟乎、所餘之時無幾、故有妻者當如無妻、哭者當如不哭、喜者當如不喜、購者當如未得、享此世者當如不享、蓋此世之形狀將逝矣、我欲爾無所慮、無妻者慮主之事、如何悅主、
