Jeremiah 15:10-21
Woe is me, my mother, that you gave birth to me, a man who incites dispute and conflict in all the land. I did not lend or borrow, yet everyone curses me.The LORD said: Haven’t I set you loose for your good? Haven’t I punished you in a time of trouble, in a time of distress with the enemy? Can anyone smash iron, iron from the north, or bronze?I will give up your wealth and your treasures as plunder, without cost, for all your sins in all your borders. Then I will make you serve your enemies in a land you do not know, for my anger will kindle a fire that will burn against you.You know, LORD; remember me and take note of me. Avenge me against my persecutors. In your patience, don’t take me away. Know that I suffer disgrace for your honor.Your words were found, and I ate them. Your words became a delight to me and the joy of my heart, for I bear your name, LORD God of Armies.I never sat with the band of revelers, and I did not celebrate with them. Because your hand was on me, I sat alone, for you filled me with indignation. Why has my pain become unending, my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? You truly have become like a mirage to me— water that is not reliable. Therefore, this is what the LORD says: If you return, I will take you back; you will stand in my presence. And if you speak noble words, rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman. It is they who must return to you; you must not return to them. Then I will make you a fortified wall of bronze to this people. They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to save you and rescue you. This is the LORD’s declaration.I will rescue you from the power of evil people and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless.

Joshua 7:7-9
“ Oh, Lord GOD,” Joshua said,“ why did you ever bring these people across the Jordan to hand us over to the Amorites for our destruction? If only we had been content to remain on the other side of the Jordan! What can I say, Lord, now that Israel has turned its back and run from its enemies? When the Canaanites and all who live in the land hear about this, they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. Then what will you do about your great name?”

Jeremiah 20:7-18
You deceived me, LORD, and I was deceived. You seized me and prevailed. I am a laughingstock all the time; everyone ridicules me.For whenever I speak, I cry out, I proclaim,“ Violence and destruction!” so the word of the LORD has become my constant disgrace and derision.I say,“ I won’t mention him or speak any longer in his name.” But his message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones. I become tired of holding it in, and I cannot prevail. For I have heard the gossip of many people,“ Terror is on every side! Report him; let’s report him!” Everyone I trusted watches for my fall.“ Perhaps he will be deceived so that we might prevail against him and take our vengeance on him.”But the LORD is with me like a violent warrior. Therefore, my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. Since they have not succeeded, they will be utterly shamed, an everlasting humiliation that will never be forgotten.LORD of Armies, testing the righteous and seeing the heart and mind, let me see your vengeance on them, for I have presented my case to you.Sing to the LORD! Praise the LORD, for he rescues the life of the needy from evil people.May the day I was born be cursed. May the day my mother bore me never be blessed.May the man be cursed who brought the news to my father, saying,“ A male child is born to you,” bringing him great joy.Let that man be like the cities the LORD demolished without compassion. Let him hear an outcry in the morning and a war cry at noontimebecause he didn’t kill me in the womb so that my mother might have been my grave, her womb eternally pregnant. Why did I come out of the womb to see only struggle and sorrow, to end my life in shame?

For they are weeping to me,‘ Give us meat to eat!’I can’t carry all these people by myself. They are too much for me.If you are going to treat me like this, please kill me right now if I have found favor with you, and don’t let me see my misery anymore.”

Lamentations 3:1-19
I am the man who has seen affliction under the rod of God’s wrath. He has driven me away and forced me to walk in darkness instead of light.Yes, he repeatedly turns his hand against me all day long.He has worn away my flesh and skin; he has broken my bones. He has laid siege against me, encircling me with bitterness and hardship. He has made me dwell in darkness like those who have been dead for ages.He has walled me in so I cannot get out; he has weighed me down with chains.Even when I cry out and plead for help, he blocks out my prayer. He has walled in my ways with blocks of stone; he has made my paths crooked. He is a bear waiting in ambush, a lion in hiding. He forced me off my way and tore me to pieces; he left me desolate. He strung his bow and set me as the target for his arrow. He pierced my kidneys with shafts from his quiver.I am a laughingstock to all my people, mocked by their songs all day long.He filled me with bitterness, satiated me with wormwood. He ground my teeth with gravel and made me cower in the dust.I have been deprived of peace; I have forgotten what prosperity is.Then I thought,“ My future is lost, as well as my hope from the LORD.”Remember my affliction and my homelessness, the wormwood and the poison.
