犹大王约西亚的儿子约雅敬第四年，尼利亚的儿子巴录将先知耶利米口中所说的话写在书上。耶利米说：“巴录啊，耶和华以色列的神说：‘巴录曾说：哀哉！耶和华将忧愁加在我的痛苦上，我因唉哼而困乏，不得安歇。’

王就吩咐哈米勒的儿子耶拉篾和亚斯列的儿子西莱雅，并亚伯叠的儿子示利米雅，去捉拿文士巴录和先知耶利米。耶和华却将他们隐藏。

于是首领对王说：“求你将这人治死；因他向城里剩下的兵丁和众民说这样的话，使他们的手发软。这人不是求这百姓得平安，乃是叫他们受灾祸。”

所以，耶利米召了尼利亚的儿子巴录来；巴录就从耶利米口中，将耶和华对耶利米所说的一切话写在书卷上。

巴录就在耶和华殿的上院，耶和华殿的新门口，沙番的儿子文士基玛利雅的屋内，念书上耶利米的话给众民听。

人若因我辱骂你们，逼迫你们，捏造各样坏话毁谤你们，你们就有福了！应当欢喜快乐，因为你们在天上的赏赐是大的。在你们以前的先知，人也是这样逼迫他们。”

他们与我为敌以报我爱，但我专心祈祷。

人为人子恨恶你们，拒绝你们，辱骂你们，弃掉你们的名，以为是恶，你们就有福了！当那日，你们要欢喜跳跃，因为你们在天上的赏赐是大的。他们的祖宗待先知也是这样。”

人都说你们好的时候，你们就有祸了！因为他们的祖宗待假先知也是这样。”
