So he called together Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers who were with him and all the people from the least to the greatest.

So Jeremiah sent for Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the other army officers with him. Jeremiah also gathered together all the people from the least important of them to the most important.

Then he summoned Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest,

加利亚的儿子约哈难、何沙雅的儿子耶撒尼亚和其他将领及各阶层的民众前来，

便来到米斯巴见基大利。他们是尼探雅的儿子以实玛利、加利亚的儿子约哈难和约拿单、单户篾的儿子西莱雅、尼陀法人以斐的儿子们、玛迦人耶撒尼亚及他们的属下。

何沙雅的儿子亚撒利雅、加利亚的儿子约哈难和一些狂妄之徒对耶利米说：“你在撒谎！我们的上帝耶和华并没有派你来告诉我们不可去埃及住。是尼利亚的儿子巴录怂恿你反对我们，好叫我们落在迦勒底人手中，任由他们宰杀或掳到巴比伦。”于是，加利亚的儿子约哈难和众将领及民众都不听从耶和华让他们留在犹大的命令。加利亚的儿子约哈难和众将领率领民众下到埃及的答比匿。民众中有流亡到各国又返回犹大的余民和护卫长尼布撒拉旦留给沙番的孙子、亚希甘的儿子基大利管理的男女妇孺、公主以及耶利米先知和尼利亚的儿子巴录。他们没有听从耶和华的命令。

加利亚的儿子约哈难和其他将领听说尼探雅的儿子以实玛利的所作所为，便率领部下去攻打他，在基遍的大水池边追上了他。被以实玛利从米斯巴掳走的人看见约哈难和众将领，喜出望外，都转身投奔约哈难。
