The land is full of adulterers; because of the curse the land lies parched and the pastures in the wilderness are withered. The prophets follow an evil course and use their power unjustly.

The highways are deserted, no travelers are on the roads. The treaty is broken, its witnesses are despised, no one is respected.The land dries up and wastes away, Lebanon is ashamed and withers; Sharon is like the Arabah, and Bashan and Carmel drop their leaves.

At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.

The anger of the Lord will not turn back until he fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart. In days to come you will understand it clearly.

I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. At midday I will bring a destroyer against the mothers of their young men; suddenly I will bring down on them anguish and terror.The mother of seven will grow faint and breathe her last. Her sun will set while it is still day; she will be disgraced and humiliated. I will put the survivors to the sword before their enemies,” declares the Lord.

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon,
