The LORD answered,“ This will happen because my people are foolish. They do not know me. They are like children who have no sense. They have no understanding. They are skilled at doing evil. They do not know how to do good.”

耶和华说：“我的百姓愚顽，不认识我；他们是愚昧无知的儿女，有智慧行恶，没有知识行善。”

『因為我的人民愚妄，連我、他們也不認識；愚頑的兒女啊、他們！無知啊、他們！他們有智巧去作壞事，要怎樣行善、卻不曉得。』

我民蒙昧、而不我識、愚蠢之子、罔有聰慧、行惡有智、行善無智、○

耶和華曰、我民愚昧、俱不知我、不明孰甚、作惡則智、為善則愚。

主曰、我民愚拙、俱不知我、蒙昧之子、毫無明哲、惟巧於行惡、不知行善、

“ My people are fools; they do not know me. They are senseless children; they have no understanding. They are skilled in doing evil; they know not how to do good.”

The Lord says,“ My people are foolish. They do not know me. They are children who do not have any sense. They have no understanding at all. They are skilled in doing what is evil. They do not know how to do what is good.”

“ For my people are foolish; they know me not; they are stupid children; they have no understanding. They are‘ wise’— in doing evil! But how to do good they know not.”

“ My people are foolish and do not know me,” says the Lord.“ They are stupid children who have no understanding. They are clever enough at doing wrong, but they have no idea how to do right!”

For my people[ is] foolish, they have not known me; they[ are] sottish children, and they have none understanding: they[ are] wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

Brothers and sisters, do not be children in your thinking. Instead, be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature.

Your obedience is known to all and thus I rejoice over you. But I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil.

Tell them:‘ Hear this, you foolish people who have no understanding, who have eyes but do not discern, who have ears but do not perceive:

there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God.

Those who devise sinful plans are as good as dead, those who dream about doing evil as they lie in bed. As soon as morning dawns they carry out their plans, because they have the power to do so.

Their wicked deeds do not allow them to return to their God; because a spirit of idolatry controls their heart, and they do not acknowledge the LORD.

They are a nation devoid of wisdom, and there is no understanding among them.

You have destroyed my people by failing to acknowledge me! Because you refuse to acknowledge me, I will reject you as my priests. Because you reject the law of your God, I will reject your descendants.

They will do these things because they have not known the Father or me.

But there is little hope for you ever doing good, you who are so accustomed to doing evil. Can an Ethiopian change the color of his skin? Can a leopard remove its spots?

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done.

When its branches get brittle, they break; women come and use them for kindling. For these people lack understanding, therefore the one who made them has no compassion on them; the one who formed them has no mercy on them.

He said,“ Go and tell these people:‘ Listen continually, but don’t understand! Look continually, but don’t perceive!’Make the hearts of these people calloused; make their ears deaf and their eyes blind! Otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, their hearts might understand and they might repent and be healed.”

Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools

The people of those nations are both stupid and foolish. Instruction from a wooden idol is worthless!

I thought,“ Surely it is only the ignorant poor who act this way. They act like fools because they do not know what the LORD demands. They do not know what their God requires of them.

My servant is truly blind, my messenger is truly deaf. My covenant partner, the servant of the LORD, is truly blind.You see many things, but don’t comprehend; their ears are open, but do not hear.”

An ox recognizes its owner, a donkey recognizes where its owner puts its food; but Israel does not recognize me, my people do not understand.”

Where is the wise man? Where is the expert in the Mosaic law? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made the wisdom of the world foolish?For since in the wisdom of God the world by its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased to save those who believe by the foolishness of preaching.

Fools say to themselves,“ There is no God.” They sin and commit evil deeds; none of them does what is right.The LORD looks down from heaven at the human race, to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God.Everyone rejects God; they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one!All those who behave wickedly do not understand– those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to the LORD.

“ Woe to you, blind guides, who say,‘ Whoever swears by the temple is bound by nothing. But whoever swears by the gold of the temple is bound by the oath.’Blind fools! Which is greater, the gold or the temple that makes the gold sacred?And,‘ Whoever swears by the altar is bound by nothing. But if anyone swears by the gift on it he is bound by the oath.’You are blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and the one who dwells in it.And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and the one who sits on it.“ Woe to you, experts in the law and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You give a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, yet you neglect what is more important in the law– justice, mercy, and faithfulness! You should have done these things without neglecting the others.Blind guides! You strain out a gnat yet swallow a camel!“ Woe to you, experts in the law and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside they are full of greed and self- indulgence.Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, so that the outside may become clean too!

The master commended the dishonest manager because he acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their contemporaries than the people of light.

Is this how you repay the LORD, you foolish, unwise people? Is he not your father, your creator? He has made you and established you.

Ahithophel replied to Absalom,“ Have sex with your father’s concubines whom he left to care for the palace. All Israel will hear that you have made yourself repulsive to your father. Then your followers will be motivated to support you.”So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and Absalom had sex with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.In those days Ahithophel’s advice was considered as valuable as a prophetic revelation. Both David and Absalom highly regarded the advice of Ahithophel.

Even the stork knows when it is time to move on. The turtledove, swallow, and crane recognize the normal times for their migration. But my people pay no attention to what I, the LORD, require of them.How can you say,“ We are wise! We have the law of the LORD”? The truth is, those who teach it have used their writings to make it say what it does not really mean.Your wise men will be put to shame. They will be dumbfounded and be brought to judgment. Since they have rejected the word of the LORD, what wisdom do they really have?

Hear the word of the LORD, you Israelites! For the LORD has a covenant lawsuit against the people of Israel. For there is neither faithfulness nor loyalty in the land, nor do they acknowledge God.

Now Amnon had a friend named Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah. Jonadab was a very crafty man.

For the LORD has poured out on you a strong urge to sleep deeply. He has shut your eyes( the prophets), and covered your heads( the seers).To you this entire prophetic revelation is like words in a sealed scroll. When they hand it to one who can read and say,“ Read this,” he responds,“ I can’t, because it is sealed.”Or when they hand the scroll to one who can’t read and say,“ Read this,” he says,“ I can’t read.”
