西底家十一年四月初九日，城被攻破。耶路撒冷被攻下的时候，巴比伦王的众官长，尼甲‧沙利薛、三甲‧尼波、撒西金将军、尼甲‧沙利薛将军，并巴比伦王其余的官长都来坐在中门。犹大王西底家和所有士兵看见他们，就在夜间从靠近王的花园、两城墙中间的门逃跑出城，往亚拉巴逃去。迦勒底的军队追赶他们，在耶利哥的平原追上西底家，将他逮住，带到哈马地的利比拉、巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒那里；尼布甲尼撒就判他的罪。在利比拉，巴比伦王在西底家眼前杀了他的儿女；巴比伦王又杀了犹大所有的贵族，并且挖了西底家的眼睛，用铜链锁住他，要带到巴比伦去。迦勒底人用火焚烧王宫和百姓的房屋，又拆毁耶路撒冷的城墙。

“人必将你的后妃和你的儿女带到迦勒底人那里；你也不得脱离他们的手，必被巴比伦王的手捉住，这城也必被火焚烧。”

我必将犹大王西底家和他的众领袖交在仇敌和寻索其命的人手中，与那暂时离你们而去的巴比伦王军队的手中。看哪，我要吩咐他们回到这城，攻打这城，将城攻取，用火焚烧；我也要使犹大的城镇变为废墟，无人居住。这是耶和华说的。”

攻城的迦勒底人必来放火焚烧这城和城里的房屋；人曾在这房顶上向巴力烧香，向别神献浇酒祭，惹我发怒。
