西底迦执政第十一年四月九日，耶路撒冷沦陷。尼甲·沙利薛、三甲·尼波、撒西金和另一个尼甲·沙利薛等巴比伦王的所有将领都进城坐在中门。犹大王西底迦和所有军兵见势不妙，便在夜间穿过御花园，从两城墙中间的门逃往亚拉巴。但迦勒底的军队追上来，在耶利哥的平原擒住西底迦，把他带到哈马的利比拉去见巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒，接受审判。巴比伦王在利比拉当着西底迦的面杀了他的众子和犹大所有的贵族，并且挖去他的双眼，把他用铜链锁着带到巴比伦。迦勒底人放火焚烧王宫和民居，拆毁耶路撒冷的城墙。

“你的嫔妃和儿女必被交给迦勒底人，你也逃不掉，必被巴比伦王所擒。这城也要被付之一炬。”

我要把犹大王西底迦及其官员交在想杀他们的敌人手中，交在刚撤军的巴比伦王手中。看啊，我要吩咐他们回来攻占这城，将它付之一炬，我要使犹大的城邑荒无人烟。这是耶和华说的。’”

他们必放火焚城，把城中的房屋付之一炬，城中的居民曾在房顶上向巴力烧香、向假神奠酒，惹我发怒。
