他們就拿住耶利米，給扔在王子瑪基雅的井裏；那井在護衛監的院子裏；他們用繩子將耶利米縋下去。井裏沒有水，只是淤泥；耶利米就沉陷在淤泥中。古實人以伯米勒、是個做太監的人、他在王宮、聽見人將耶利米下在井裏——那時王在便雅憫門口坐着——以伯米勒就從王宮出來，告訴王說：『我主我王啊，這些人待神言人耶利米的盡是行壞事：將他扔在井裏，他是會當場餓死的；因為城裏再也沒有糧食了。』

他們審問了我，因我沒有該死的罪狀，就有意思要釋放我；但猶太人卻反對着；我不得已、只好向該撒上訴，並不是我有甚麼事要控告我本族的人。

不過你們要確實知道，你們若把我治死，就必使無辜人的血歸到你們和這城、以及它的居民，因為永恆主實在差遣了我到你們中間來，將這一切話傳到你們耳中。』

保羅的外甥聽見了這埋伏的事，就來，進了營樓，報告保羅。保羅便請了一個百夫長來，說：『請把這個壯年人帶去見千夫長；他有事要報告他。』於是百夫長就拉着那人，帶去見千夫長說：『囚犯保羅請我到他那裏，求把這個青年人帶來見千夫長，他有事要告訴千夫長。』千夫長就拉着那人的手，退到一邊，私下查問說：『你有甚麼事要報告我？』他說：『猶太人已經約定，要求千夫長明天將保羅帶下去到議院，好像要稍微更詳確地查問他、的樣子。所以請不要順着他們；因為他們中間有四十多人正在伺伏等着他；這些人曾經起了誓，非等到殺掉保羅、不喫也不喝；如今他們已準備好了，只期望着你應允。』於是千夫長把那青年人打發走了，囑咐說：『不要對甚麼人洩漏、說你把這些事稟報了我。』

那麼你只要對他們說：「我只把我所懇求的呈到王面前，求他不要叫我回約拿單的屋子、去死在那裏。」』

保羅說：『我站在該撒的審判臺前，應當在該撒臺前受審判；我對猶太人並沒有行過甚麼不對的事；就是大人也明明理會的。我若行了不對的事，犯了甚麼該死的罪，就是死也不推辭；不過、這些人所控告我的、如果是沒的事，就沒有人能徇人情將我交給他們。我要向該撒上訴。』
