But now please listen, your royal Majesty, and grant my plea for mercy. Do not send me back to the house of Jonathan, the royal secretary. If you do, I will die there.”

也许他们会向耶和华恳求，各人回转，离开自己的恶道，因为耶和华向这人民所说要发的怒气和烈怒是很大的。”

他们就拿住耶利米，把他丢在王子玛基雅的井里，那井是在卫兵的院子里的；他们用绳子把耶利米缒下去。井里没有水，只有淤泥；耶利米就陷在淤泥中。宫中的臣宰古实人以伯．米勒，在王宫里听见他们把耶利米关在井里的消息（那时，王正在便雅悯门坐着），以伯．米勒就从王宫里出来，禀告王说：“我主我王啊！这些人对耶利米先知所作的一切真是恶毒，他们把他丢在井里；在那地方他必饿死，因为城里再没有粮食了。”

他们审讯之后，因为在我身上没有什么该死的罪，就想要释放我。可是犹太人反对，我迫不得已才上诉凯撒，并不是有什么事要控告我的国民。

不过你们要确实知道，如果你们杀死我，就必使无辜的人的血归到你们和这城，以及这城的居民头上，因为耶和华实在差遣了我到你们中间，把这一切话传到你们耳中。”

但保罗的外甥听见这项埋伏的诡计，就到营楼去，告诉保罗。保罗请了一个百夫长来，说：“请你带这个青年人去见千夫长，他有事要报告。”百夫长就带保罗的外甥去见千夫长，说：“囚犯保罗请了我去，求我带这个青年人来见你，他有事要向你报告。”千夫长拉着他的手，走到一边，私下问他：“你有什么事要向我报告？”他说：“犹太人已经约好了，要求你明天把保罗带到公议会里去，装作要详细审查他。你不要听他们，因为他们有四十多人正在埋伏起来等着保罗；他们发了誓，不杀保罗，就不吃不喝。现在他们已经准备好了，只等你答应。”千夫长嘱咐那青年人：“不要告诉人你把这事告诉了我。”然后就打发他走了。

你就要对他们说：‘我只是把我的恳求呈到王面前，求他不要把我送回约拿单的房子去，免得我死在那里。’”

保罗说：“我现在站在凯撒的审判台前，这里是我应当受审的地方。我对犹太人并没有作过什么不对的事，这是你清楚知道的。我若作过不对的事，犯过什么该死的罪，就是死我也不推辞。不过，如果这些人告我的事不是真的，谁也不可以把我送给他们。我要向凯撒上诉。”
