But when he reached the Benjamin Gate, the captain of the guard, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, arrested him and said,“ You are deserting to the Babylonians!”

He got as far as the Benjamin Gate. But the captain of the guard arrested him. He said,“ You are going over to the side of the Babylonians!” The captain’s name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah. Shelemiah was the son of Hananiah.

When he was at the Benjamin Gate, a sentry there named Irijah the son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans.”

But as he was walking through the Benjamin Gate, a sentry arrested him and said,“ You are defecting to the Babylonians!” The sentry making the arrest was Irijah son of Shelemiah, grandson of Hananiah.

But when he was at the Benjamin Gate, an officer of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, and he apprehended the prophet Jeremiah, saying,“ You are defecting to the Chaldeans.”

While he was at the Gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah the son of Hananiah was there; and he arrested Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans!”

And when he was in the Gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there whose name was Irijah the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are defecting to the Chaldeans!”

And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou art falling away to the Chaldeans.

But when he was at the Benjamin Gate, an officer of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, and he apprehended Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans.”

And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward[ was] there, whose name[ was] Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

But he only got as far as the Benjamin Gate. There an officer in charge of the guards named Irijah, who was the son of Shelemiah and the grandson of Hananiah, stopped him. He seized Jeremiah and said,“ You are deserting to the Babylonians!”

When he was in Benjamin’s gate, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are defecting to the Chaldeans!”

那时，王正坐在便雅悯门口。宫廷侍臣古实人以伯·米勒听说他们把耶利米囚在蓄水池里，

从迦巴直到耶路撒冷南边的临门，整个地区都要变为平原。从便雅悯门到旧门，再到角门，从哈楠业楼到王的榨酒池——耶路撒冷必仍然矗立在原处。

留在这城里的必死于战争、饥荒和瘟疫，出城向迦勒底人投降的必保全性命、逃过一死。

指控祂说：“这人蛊惑民心，禁止百姓向凯撒纳税，又说自己是基督，是君王。”

他们对我的指控毫无根据。

玛坦的儿子示法提雅、巴施户珥的儿子基大利、示利米雅的儿子犹甲、玛基雅的儿子巴施户珥听见了耶利米对众人说：

于是，他们暗中唆使一些人诬告司提凡说：“我们听见他说亵渎摩西和上帝的话！”

我们发现这个人惹事生非，到处煽动犹太人闹事。他是拿撒勒教派的一个头目，企图玷污圣殿，被我们抓住了。我们想按照犹太律法处置他，不料吕西亚千夫长却硬把他从我们手中抢走，并命令告他的人到大人这里来。大人亲自审问他，就会知道我们告他的事了。”在场的犹太人也随声附和，表示这些事属实。

我听见许多人窃窃私语：“看那个说‘四面有恐怖’的人，我们告发他！告发他！”我的好友都盼着我灭亡，说：“或许他会受骗，那样我们便能打倒他，一泄心头之恨。”

他们说：“来！我们设计对付耶利米吧，反正我们有祭司教导律法，有智者出谋划策，有先知传讲预言。来吧！我们抨击他，不要理会他的话。”

于是，王吩咐古实人以伯·米勒率领三十人，在耶利米先知未死之前把他从池中救出来。以伯·米勒带着他的手下进入王宫，从库房下面的房间拿了些碎布和破衣，用绳索缒到池底给耶利米，让他把这些碎布和破衣垫在腋下，以免被绳索勒伤。耶利米就照做了。他们便把耶利米从池中拉上来拘留在护卫兵的院子里。西底迦王派人把耶利米先知带到耶和华殿的第三道门那里与他会面。他对耶利米说：“我要问你一件事，你不可隐瞒。”耶利米说：“我若从实禀告，你一定会杀我。我就是给你建议，你也不会听。”于是，他私下向耶利米发誓说：“我凭那赐给我们生命的永活的耶和华起誓，我决不杀你，也不把你交在想杀你的人手中。”耶利米说：“以色列的上帝——万军之上帝耶和华说，‘如果你出去向巴比伦王的将领投降，就可以保住你和你全家的性命，这城也不会被烧毁。

我照耶和华的吩咐对犹大王西底迦说：“你们要负巴比伦王的轭，臣服于他和他的人民，这样你们就可存活。你和你的人民何必死于战争、饥荒和瘟疫呢？耶和华要降这些灾难给不肯臣服于巴比伦王的国家。

这几位官长就对西底迦王说：“求你处死这人！因为他的话令这城的军民士气低落。这人不为人民着想，反要害他们。”

就下到王宫，进入书记的房间。房间内坐着所有官长，即书记以利沙玛、示玛雅的儿子第莱雅、亚革波的儿子以利拿单、沙番的儿子基玛利雅和哈拿尼雅的儿子西底迦等人。

现在，我要把你们的国家交给我的仆人巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒，连田野的走兽也要归他管辖。

我要把铁轭放在所有这些国家的颈上，他们都要臣服于巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒，连田野的走兽也要交给他管辖。’这是以色列的上帝——万军之耶和华说的。”

伯特利的祭司亚玛谢派人告诉以色列王耶罗波安：“阿摩司在以色列家图谋背叛你，我们国家无法容忍他的言论。

无论是得荣耀还是受羞辱，遭毁谤还是得称赞，都显明自己是上帝的仆人。我们被视为骗子，却是诚实无伪；
