The LORD spoke to Jeremiah while King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon was attacking Jerusalem and the towns around it with a large army. This army consisted of troops from his own army and from the kingdoms and peoples of the lands under his dominion.

尼布甲尼撒王詔天下諸民諸國、諸方言者曰、願爾平康增益、

我以大能奮臂、肇造大地、與其上之人民牲畜、以地錫人、依我所視為宜、吾今以此諸國、付於我僕巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒手、亦錫以田野之畜、俾供其役、列邦必服事之、延及子孫、迨其國之期既屆、則有多國大王、使之服役、

時、巴比倫王之軍旅攻耶路撒冷、與猶大所餘之邑、即拉吉與亞西加、蓋猶大堅城、僅存其二也、○

行耶和華所惡、先知耶利米以耶和華言諭之、彼不自卑、尼布甲尼撒使其指上帝而誓、彼仍背叛、強其項、剛厥心、不歸服以色列之上帝耶和華、且諸祭司長與民眾、大干罪戾、從異邦可憎之事、污耶和華在耶路撒冷區別為聖之室、其列祖之上帝耶和華、矜恤其民、與其居所、夙興遣使以戒之、惟彼訕笑上帝之使、藐視其言、譏其先知、致耶和華之怒及於其民、無可救治、故上帝使迦勒底王來攻之、以刃戮其丁壯於其聖室、不恤幼男少女、老人白叟、俱付其手、

王歟、生長堅剛者爾也、爾之高大、凌乎霄漢、爾之權勢、及於地極、

因上帝所賜之大權、諸民諸國、諸方言者、咸戰慄畏懼於其前、生殺升降、隨其所欲、
