Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, and all his armies were fighting against Jerusalem. They were also fighting against all the towns around it. All the kingdoms and nations Nebuchadnezzar ruled over were helping him. At that time a message from the Lord came to Jeremiah. The Lord said,

The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,

The LORD spoke to Jeremiah while King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon was attacking Jerusalem and the towns around it with a large army. This army consisted of troops from his own army and from the kingdoms and peoples of the lands under his dominion.

The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, with all his army, all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem and against all its cities, saying:

西底迦執政第九年十月十日，巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒率領全軍攻打耶路撒冷，在城外安營，修築圍城的高臺。城一直被圍困到西底迦執政第十一年。那年四月九日，城裡饑荒非常嚴重，百姓無糧可吃。城被攻破，城裡的所有士兵便在夜間穿過御花園，從兩城牆中間的門逃往亞拉巴。當時迦勒底人仍四面包圍著城。迦勒底軍隊追趕西底迦，在耶利哥平原追上了他，他的軍隊都四散而逃。迦勒底人擒住西底迦，把他押到利比拉見巴比倫王，在那裡審判他。巴比倫王在西底迦面前殺了他的眾子，又剜去他的雙眼，把他用銅鏈鎖著押往巴比倫。巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒執政第十九年五月七日，他的臣僕——護衛長尼布撒拉旦來到耶路撒冷，放火焚燒耶和華的殿、王宮及城內所有的房屋。他燒毀了所有重要建築。

尼布甲尼撒王傳諭天下各族、各邦、各語種的人：「願你們大享平安！

我伸出大能的臂膀創造了大地、地上的人類和動物，我想把大地賜給誰就賜給誰。現在，我要把你們的國家交給我的僕人巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒，連田野的走獸也要歸他管轄。各國都要臣服於他和他的子孫，直到他的國家滅亡。那時，許多國家和強大的君王必奴役他。

那時，巴比倫王的軍隊正攻打耶路撒冷以及猶大剩下的兩座堅城——拉吉和亞西加。

他做他的上帝耶和華視為惡的事，耶利米先知向他傳講耶和華的話，他仍不肯在耶利米面前謙卑下來。尼布甲尼撒曾讓他奉上帝的名起誓，他卻背叛了尼布甲尼撒。他頑固不化，不肯歸向以色列的上帝耶和華。所有祭司長和民眾也都仿效外族人的一切可憎行徑，犯了大罪，玷污了耶和華在耶路撒冷使之聖潔的殿。他們祖先的上帝耶和華因為憐愛祂的子民和祂的居所，就不斷派使者來勸告他們。他們卻嘲弄耶和華上帝的使者，藐視祂的話，嘲笑祂的先知，以致祂的憤怒臨到祂的子民身上，無可挽救。耶和華使迦勒底人的王起兵攻打他們，在他們的聖殿裡用刀擊殺他們的壯丁，毫不憐憫少男少女、老人和年高者。耶和華把他們全部交在他的手中。

王啊，這蒼勁有力的樹就是你，你的威名高達穹蒼，你的權柄延至地極。

因為他有上帝所賜的大權，各族、各邦、各語種的人都在他面前戰抖，充滿恐懼。他操生殺大權，可隨意擢升、罷黜。
