You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the parents’ sins into the laps of their children after them. Great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord Almighty,

You show your love to thousands of people. But you cause the sins of parents to affect even their children. Great and powerful God, your name is the Lord Who Rules Over All.

You show steadfast love to thousands, but you repay the guilt of fathers to their children after them, O great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord of hosts,

You show unfailing love to thousands, but you also bring the consequences of one generation’s sin upon the next. You are the great and powerful God, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

who shows mercy to thousands, but repays the wrongdoing of fathers into the laps of their children after them, great and mighty God. The Lord of armies is His name;

You show lovingkindness to thousands, and repay the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them— the Great, the Mighty God, whose name is the Lord of hosts.

Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts,[ is] his name,

You show unfailing love to thousands. But you also punish children for the sins of their parents. You are the great and powerful God who is known as the LORD who rules over all.

You show loving kindness to thousands, and repay the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them. The great, the mighty God, Yahweh of Armies is your name:

Jacob’s Portion is not like these because he is the one who formed all things. Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the LORD of Armies is his name.

maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But he will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.

Do not bow in worship to them, and do not serve them, because I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me,but showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commands.

Know that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps his gracious covenant loyalty for a thousand generations with those who love him and keep his commands.But he directly pays back and destroys those who hate him. He will not hesitate to pay back directly the one who hates him.

The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks; he summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.

You behaved more wickedly than all who were before you. In order to anger me, you have proceeded to make for yourself other gods and cast images, but you have flung me behind your back.Because of all this, I am about to bring disaster on the house of Jeroboam: I will wipe out all of Jeroboam’s males, both slave and free, in Israel; I will sweep away the house of Jeroboam as one sweeps away dung until it is all gone!

Now the word of the LORD came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha:“ Because I raised you up from the dust and made you ruler over my people Israel, but you have walked in the ways of Jeroboam and have caused my people Israel to sin, angering me with their sins,take note: I will eradicate Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat:

For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

“ This is what the LORD says: The one who gives the sun for light by day, the fixed order of moon and stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea and makes its waves roar— the LORD of Armies is his name:

Fill up, then, the measure of your ancestors’ sins!“ Snakes! Brood of vipers! How can you escape being condemned to hell?This is why I am sending you prophets, sages, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.So all the righteous blood shed on the earth will be charged to you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.Truly I tell you, all these things will come on this generation.

The LORD is great and is highly praised; his greatness is unsearchable.One generation will declare your works to the next and will proclaim your mighty acts.I will speak of your splendor and glorious majesty and your wondrous works.They will proclaim the power of your awe-inspiring acts, and I will declare your greatness.

I said, LORD, the God of the heavens, the great and awe-inspiring God who keeps his gracious covenant with those who love him and keep his commands,

All the people answered,“ His blood be on us and on our children!”

The remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty God.

Don’t be terrified of them, for the LORD your God, a great and awesome God, is among you.

Then Joshua and all Israel with him took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the cloak, and the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his ox, donkey, and sheep, his tent, and all that he had, and brought them up to the Valley of Achor.Joshua said,“ Why have you brought us trouble? Today the LORD will bring you trouble!” So all Israel stoned them to death. They burned their bodies, threw stones on them,and raised over him a large pile of rocks that remains still today. Then the LORD turned from his burning anger. Therefore that place is called the Valley of Achor still today.

The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in faithful love, forgiving iniquity and rebellion. But he will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children to the third and fourth generation.

This is what the LORD says:‘ I am about to bring disaster on you and will eradicate your descendants: I will wipe out all of Ahab’s males, both slave and free, in Israel;I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have angered me and caused Israel to sin.’The LORD also speaks of Jezebel:‘ The dogs will eat Jezebel in the plot of land at Jezreel:Anyone who belongs to Ahab and dies in the city, the dogs will eat, and anyone who dies in the field, the birds will eat.’”

For the LORD your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awe-inspiring God, showing no partiality and taking no bribe.

Are you not from eternity, LORD my God? My Holy One, you will not die. LORD, you appointed them to execute judgment; my Rock, you destined them to punish us.

During David’s reign there was a famine for three successive years, so David inquired of the LORD. The LORD answered,“ It is due to Saul and to his bloody family, because he killed the Gibeonites.”The Gibeonites were not Israelites but rather a remnant of the Amorites. How can I make atonement so that you will bring a blessing on the LORD’s inheritance?”The Gibeonites said to him,“ We are not asking for silver and gold from Saul or his family, and we cannot put anyone to death in Israel.”“ Whatever you say, I will do for you,” he said.They replied to the king,“ As for the man who annihilated us and plotted to destroy us so we would not exist within the whole territory of Israel,let seven of his male descendants be handed over to us so we may hang them in the presence of the LORD at Gibeah of Saul, the LORD’s chosen.” The king answered,“ I will hand them over.”David spared Mephibosheth, the son of Saul’s son Jonathan, because of the oath of the LORD that was between David and Jonathan, Saul’s son.But the king took Armoni and Mephibosheth, who were the two sons whom Rizpah daughter of Aiah had borne to Saul, and the five sons whom Merab daughter of Saul had borne to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathiteand handed them over to the Gibeonites. They hanged them on the hill in the presence of the LORD; the seven of them died together. They were executed in the first days of the harvest at the beginning of the barley harvest.

For the High and Exalted One, who lives forever, whose name is holy, says this:“ I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the oppressed.

‘ As surely as I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons yesterday’— this is the LORD’s declaration—‘ so will I repay you on this plot of land’— this is the LORD’s declaration. So now, according to the word of the LORD, pick him up and throw him on the plot of land.”

Yet his bow remained steady, and his strong arms were made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, by the name of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,
