I gave the same message to Zedekiah king of Judah. I said,“ Bow your neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon; serve him and his people, and you will live.

I gave the same message to Zedekiah, the king of Judah. I said,“ Put your neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon. Obey him. Serve his people. Then you will live.

To Zedekiah king of Judah I spoke in like manner:“ Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people and live.

Then I repeated this same message to King Zedekiah of Judah.“ If you want to live, submit to the yoke of the king of Babylon and his people.

當年，就是猶大王西底家開始執政的第四年五月，基遍人押朔的兒子哈拿尼雅先知，在耶和華殿中，當著祭司和眾民的面前對我說：

耶利米對西底家說：“耶和華萬軍的神、以色列的神這樣說：‘你若出去歸降巴比倫王的將領，你的性命就可以存活；這城也不會被火焚燒，你和你一家都可以存活。

“‘無論哪一國、哪一邦，不服事巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒，不把頸項放在巴比倫王的軛下，我必用刀劍、饑荒和瘟疫去懲罰那國，直到我藉著巴比倫王的手把他們完全消滅。’這是耶和華的宣告。

唯有聽從我的，必安然居住，得享安寧，免受災禍的驚恐。”

“耶和華對我這樣說：‘你要用繩套和木頭做軛，套在自己的頸上。然後藉著那些前來耶路撒冷朝見猶大王西底家的使臣的手，把軛送到以東王、摩押王、亞捫王、推羅王、西頓王那裡。

西底家登基的時候，是二十一歲；他在耶路撒冷作王共十一年，他行耶和華他的神看為惡的事；耶利米先知奉耶和華的命令警戒他，他仍不在耶利米面前謙卑下來。尼布甲尼撒王曾經使他指著神起誓，他還是背叛了尼布甲尼撒；他頑固執拗，不肯歸向耶和華以色列的神。

耶和華的話臨到我說：“你要對那叛逆的民族說：‘你們不知道這些事是甚麼意思嗎？’你要告訴他們：‘看哪！巴比倫王曾到耶路撒冷來，把其中的王和眾領袖擄去，帶他們到巴比倫那裡去。他從以色列王室後裔中選出一人，與他立約，叫他起誓，並且把國中那些有勢力的人擄去，使國衰微，不能再興盛，唯有謹守條約他才可以繼續存在。可是這人背叛了巴比倫王，差遣使者到埃及去，要得戰馬和大軍。他能亨通嗎？行這樣事的人，怎能逃脫呢？他破壞條約，怎能逃脫呢？我指著我的永生起誓：他藐視了自己所起的誓，背棄了與王所立的約，因此他必死在巴比倫，就是那立他作王的巴比倫王的國家。這是耶和華的宣告。敵人建造圍城的高牆，築起攻城土壘要剪除多人的時候，法老率領大軍和大隊人馬，還是不能幫助他作戰。他藐視誓言，背棄條約；他已宣誓效忠，卻又行了這一切事，所以他必不能逃脫。因此主耶和華這樣說：我指著我的永生起誓：他既然藐視我的誓言，背棄我的約，我必使這罪歸到他的頭上。我要把我的網撒在他身上，他必在我的網羅中被捕獲；我要把他帶到巴比倫去，並且要在那裡因他對我不忠的罪審判他。他軍中所有的精兵（按照《馬索拉文本》，“精兵”作“逃跑的人”；現參照其他抄本、《七十士譯本》和其他古譯本翻譯），都必倒在刀下；剩下的也必分散到四方；你們就知道說這話的是我耶和華。
