祭司音麥的兒子巴施戶珥作耶和華殿的總管，聽見耶利米預言這些事，他就打先知耶利米，用耶和華殿裏便雅憫高門內的枷，將他枷在那裏。

我每逢講論的時候，就發出哀聲，我喊叫說：有強暴和毀滅！因為耶和華的話終日成了我的凌辱、譏刺。我若說：我不再提耶和華，也不再奉他的名講論，我便心裏覺得似乎有燒着的火閉塞在我骨中，我就含忍不住，不能自禁。我聽見了許多人的讒謗，四圍都是驚嚇；就是我知己的朋友也都窺探我，願我跌倒，說：告他吧，我們也要告他！或者他被引誘，我們就能勝他，在他身上報仇。然而，耶和華與我同在，好像甚可怕的勇士。因此，逼迫我的必都絆跌，不能得勝；他們必大大蒙羞，就是受永不忘記的羞辱，因為他們行事沒有智慧。

園戶拿住僕人，打了一個，殺了一個，用石頭打死一個。主人又打發別的僕人去，比先前更多；園戶還是照樣待他們。後來打發他的兒子到他們那裏去，意思說：『他們必尊敬我的兒子。』不料，園戶看見他兒子，就彼此說：『這是承受產業的。來吧，我們殺他，佔他的產業！』他們就拿住他，推出葡萄園外，殺了。

那時，祭司長和民間的長老聚集在大祭司稱為該亞法的院裏。大家商議要用詭計拿住耶穌，殺他，

我責打你們的兒女是徒然的，他們不受懲治。你們自己的刀吞滅你們的先知，好像殘害的獅子。

公會的人聽見就極其惱怒，想要殺他們。

祭司長和全公會尋找假見證控告耶穌，要治死他。雖有好些人來作假見證，總得不着實據。末後有兩個人前來，說：「這個人曾說：『我能拆毀神的殿，三日內又建造起來。』」大祭司就站起來，對耶穌說：「你甚麼都不回答嗎？這些人作見證告你的是甚麼呢？」耶穌卻不言語。大祭司對他說：「我指着永生神叫你起誓告訴我們，你是神的兒子基督不是？」耶穌對他說：「你說的是。然而，我告訴你們，後來你們要看見人子坐在那權能者的右邊，駕着天上的雲降臨。」大祭司就撕開衣服，說：「他說了僭妄的話，我們何必再用見證人呢？這僭妄的話，現在你們都聽見了。你們的意見如何？」他們回答說：「他是該死的。」

先知和聖徒，並地上一切被殺之人的血，都在這城裏看見了。

耶和華說：你若與步行的人同跑，尚且覺累，怎能與馬賽跑呢？你在平安之地，雖然安穩，在約旦河邊的叢林要怎樣行呢？因為連你弟兄和你父家都用奸詐待你。他們也在你後邊大聲喊叫，雖向你說好話，你也不要信他們。

他們就說：「來吧！我們可以設計謀害耶利米；因為我們有祭司講律法，智慧人設謀略，先知說預言，都不能斷絕。來吧！我們可以用舌頭擊打他，不要理會他的一切話。」

其餘的拿住僕人，凌辱他們，把他們殺了。

這就是你們自己證明是殺害先知者的子孫了。你們去充滿你們祖宗的惡貫吧！你們這些蛇類、毒蛇之種啊，怎能逃脫地獄的刑罰呢？所以我差遣先知和智慧人並文士到你們這裏來，有的你們要殺害，要釘十字架；有的你們要在會堂裏鞭打，從這城追逼到那城，叫世上所流義人的血都歸到你們身上，從義人亞伯的血起，直到你們在殿和壇中間所殺的巴拉加的兒子撒迦利亞的血為止。

他們卻嘻笑神的使者，藐視他的言語，譏誚他的先知，以致耶和華的忿怒向他的百姓發作，無法可救。

我卻像柔順的羊羔被牽到宰殺之地；我並不知道他們設計謀害我，說：我們把樹連果子都滅了吧！將他從活人之地剪除，使他的名不再被紀念。按公義判斷、察驗人肺腑心腸的萬軍之耶和華啊，我卻要見你在他們身上報仇，因我將我的案件向你稟明了。所以，耶和華論到尋索你命的亞拿突人如此說：「他們說：你不要奉耶和華的名說預言，免得你死在我們手中。
