Perhaps they will listen and each will turn from their evil ways. Then I will relent and not inflict on them the disaster I was planning because of the evil they have done.

Perhaps they will listen. Maybe they will turn from their evil ways. Then I will not do what I said I would. I will not bring trouble on them. I had planned to punish them because of the evil things they had done.

我甚麼時候論到一邦或一國說，要拔除，要拆毁，要毁滅，我所論到的那一邦若轉回離開他們的壞事，那我就後悔我想要降與他們的災禍了。我甚麼時候論到一邦或一國說，要建立，要栽植，他們若行我所看為壞的事，不聽我的聲音，那麼我就後悔我所說要使他們得益處的福了。

你們要洗澡、使自己純潔；從我眼前除掉你們行為之敗壞；要止住作惡，要學習行善；尋求公平，糾正殘暴的人，為孤兒伸冤，為寡婦辯訴。』永恆主說：『來，我們來彼此辯訴；你們的罪雖像硃紅，必變白如雪；雖紅如丹硃，必白如羊毛。你若情願並聽從，就得以喫地上的美物；

或者猶大家聽見我想要降與他們的一切災禍，各人就回轉，離開各人的壞行徑也不一定，我好赦免他們的罪孽和他們的罪。』

再者，惡人若回轉離開他所行的惡，而行公平正義的事，他就會將性命救活。因為他瞻前顧後，回轉離開他所犯的罪過，他必定活着，不至於早死。以色列家還說：「主所行的不公正。」以色列家啊，我所行的哪裏是不公正呢？豈不是你們所行的不公正麼？『所以主永恆主發神諭說：以色列家啊，我要判罰你們，各照各人所行的。回轉吧！轉離你們一切的罪過吧！免得罪過成了你們陷於罪罰中的因由。

亞哈聽見了這些話，就撕裂衣服，身穿麻布，禁食，睡在麻布上，垂頭喪氣地走來走去。

人和牲口都要披上麻布；要極力呼求上帝；各人要回轉過來、離開他的壞行徑，丟棄手中的強暴；或者上帝改變初衷，回心轉意、不發烈怒，使我們不至於滅亡，也未可知。』上帝看他們所作的，見他們回轉過來、離開他們的壞行徑，上帝對那災禍就改變心意：他說要降與他們的，如今也不降了。

『亞哈在我面前怎樣自己謙卑、你看見了麼？因為他在我面前自己謙卑，所以他在世的日子我不降這災禍；乃是到他兒子的日子我才要降這災禍於他的家。』

他就禱告永恆主說：『哦永恆主啊，我還在我本地的時候、不就這樣說了麼？故此我才急速逃往他施啊；因為我知道你是有恩惠有憐憫的上帝，不輕易發怒，而有豐盛的堅愛，並且能改變心意不降所說的災禍。

或者他們把懇求的話呈到永恆主面前，各人就回轉、離開各人的壞行徑也不一定；因為永恆主所說要攻擊這人民的怒氣和惱怒實在很大。』
