亚撒因此恼恨先见，将他囚在监里。那时亚撒也虐待一些人民。

因为，凡要救自己生命的，必丧掉生命；凡为我丧掉生命的，必得着生命。人若赚得全世界，赔上自己的生命，有什么益处呢？人还能拿什么换生命呢？

于是希罗底怀恨他，想要杀他，只是不能；

那杀身体、不能杀灵魂的，不要怕他们；惟有能把身体和灵魂都灭在地狱里的，正要怕他。

惧怕人的，陷入网罗；惟有倚靠耶和华的，必得安稳。

得着生命的，将要失丧生命；为我失丧生命的，将要得着生命。”

亚哈将以利亚一切所行的和他用刀杀众先知的事都告诉耶洗别。耶洗别就差遣人去见以利亚，告诉他说：“明日约在这时候，我若不使你的性命像那些人的性命一样，愿神明重重地降罚与我。”以利亚见这光景就起来逃命，到了犹大的别是巴，将仆人留在那里，

我的性命常在危险之中，我却不忘记你的律法。
