You who live in‘ Lebanon,’ who are nestled in cedar buildings, how you will groan when pangs come upon you, pain like that of a woman in labor!

Some of you live in Jerusalem in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon. You are comfortable in your cedar buildings. But you will groan when pain comes on you. It will be like the pain of a woman having a baby.

O inhabitant of Lebanon, nested among the cedars, how you will be pitied when pangs come upon you, pain as of a woman in labor!”

It may be nice to live in a beautiful palace paneled with wood from the cedars of Lebanon, but soon you will groan with pangs of anguish— anguish like that of a woman in labor.

You residents of Lebanon, nestled among the cedars, how you will groan when pains come on you, agony like a woman in labor.

You who live in Lebanon, Nested in the cedars, How you will groan when sharp pains come on you, Pain like a woman in childbirth!

You may feel as secure as a bird nesting in the cedars of Lebanon. But oh how you will groan when the pains of judgment come on you. They will be like those of a woman giving birth to a baby.

Inhabitant of Lebanon, who makes your nest in the cedars, how greatly to be pitied you will be when pangs come on you, the pain as of a woman in travail!

We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us,[ and] pain, as of a woman in travail.

And[ when] thou[ art] spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair;[ thy] lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail,[ and] the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion,[ that] bewaileth herself,[ that] spreadeth her hands,[ saying], Woe[ is] me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.

For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou[ art] Gilead unto me,[ and] the head of Lebanon:[ yet] surely I will make thee a wilderness,[ and] cities[ which] are not inhabited.

And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine,[ and] they rebel against me.

O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove[ that] maketh her nest in the sides of the hole’s mouth.

A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping[ and] supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way,[ and] they have forgotten the LORD their God.

I will go[ and] return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

Thy terribleness hath deceived thee,[ and] the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.

For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.

Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

Open thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour thy cedars.Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled: howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down.

Behold, I[ am] against thee, O inhabitant of the valley,[ and] rock of the plain, saith the LORD; which say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?

Though thou exalt[ thyself] as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.

In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God.They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward,[ saying], Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant[ that] shall not be forgotten.

Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down:
