爾以香柏之工競美、豈得因此為王乎、爾父式飲式食、秉公行義、而獲福祉、

耶和華曰、爾雖以柏香木為板、以示華美、豈得恆居王位。爾父日用飲食、躬行仁義、而享福祉、彼為貧乏伸冤、既識我道、遂得亨通、

爾以柏香木竭力建造宮室、豈因此能為王乎、爾父雖飲雖食、仍秉公行義而享福祉、

“ Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just, so all went well with him.

“ Jehoiakim, does having more and more cedar boards make you a king? Your father Josiah had enough to eat and drink. He did what was right and fair. So everything went well with him.

Do you think you are a king because you compete in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.

But a beautiful cedar palace does not make a great king! Your father, Josiah, also had plenty to eat and drink. But he was just and right in all his dealings. That is why God blessed him.

Do you become a king because you are competing in cedar? Did your father not eat and drink And do justice and righteousness? Then it was well for him.

“ Shall you reign because you enclose yourself in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink, And do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.

Shalt thou reign, because thou strivest to excel in cedar? Did not thy father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? then it was well with him.

Shalt thou reign, because thou closest[ thyself] in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice,[ and] then[ it was] well with him?

Does it make you any more of a king that you outstrip everyone else in building with cedar? Just think about your father. He was content that he had food and drink. He did what was just and right. So things went well with him.

“ Should you reign, because you strive to excel in cedar? Didn’t your father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.

Before him there was no king like him who turned to the LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength according to all the law of Moses, and no one like him arose after him.

Tell the righteous that it will go well for them, for they will eat the fruit of their labor.

By justice a king brings stability to a land, but a person who demands“ contributions” demolishes it.

Remove the wicked from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.

Blessed are you, land, when your king is a son of nobles and your princes feast at the proper time— for strength and not for drunkenness.

How happy is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways!You will surely eat what your hands have worked for. You will be happy, and it will go well for you.

He did what was right in the LORD’s sight and walked in all the ways of his ancestor David; he did not turn to the right or the left.

Doing what is righteous and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

Whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, we will obey the LORD our God to whom we are sending you so that it may go well with us. We will certainly obey the LORD our God!”

Blessed be the LORD your God! He delighted in you and put you on the throne of Israel, because of the LORD’s eternal love for Israel. He has made you king to carry out justice and righteousness.”

So David reigned over all Israel, administering justice and righteousness for all his people.

House of David, this is what the LORD says: Administer justice every morning, and rescue the victim of robbery from his oppressor, or my anger will flare up like fire and burn unquenchably because of your evil deeds.

Speak up, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the oppressed and needy.

This is what the LORD says: Administer justice and righteousness. Rescue the victim of robbery from his oppressor. Don’t exploit or brutalize the resident alien, the fatherless, or the widow. Don’t shed innocent blood in this place.

Keep his statutes and commands, which I am giving you today, so that you and your children after you may prosper and so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you for all time.”

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.

“ Look, the days are coming”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ when I will raise up a Righteous Branch for David. He will reign wisely as king and administer justice and righteousness in the land.

The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the LORD of Armies will accomplish this.

There is nothing better for a person than to eat, drink, and enjoy his work. I have seen that even this is from God’s hand,

he will dwell on the heights; his refuge will be the rocky fortresses, his food provided, his water assured.

Josiah’s sons: Johanan was the firstborn, Jehoiakim second, Zedekiah third, and Shallum fourth.

Loyalty and faithfulness guard a king; through loyalty he maintains his throne.

Therefore, this is what the LORD says concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah: They will not mourn for him, saying,“ Woe, my brother!” or“ Woe, my sister!” They will not mourn for him, saying,“ Woe, lord! Woe, his majesty!”

They removed the burnt offerings so that they might be given to the groupings of the ancestral families of the lay people to offer to the LORD, according to what is written in the book of Moses; they did the same with the cattle.They roasted the Passover lambs with fire according to regulation. They boiled the holy sacrifices in pots, kettles, and bowls; and they quickly brought them to the lay people.Afterward, they made preparations for themselves and for the priests, since the priests, the descendants of Aaron, were busy offering up burnt offerings and fat until night. So the Levites made preparations for themselves and for the priests, the descendants of Aaron.The singers, the descendants of Asaph, were at their stations according to the command of David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer. Also, the gatekeepers were at each temple gate. None of them left their tasks because their Levite brothers had made preparations for them.So all the service of the LORD was established that day for observing the Passover and for offering burnt offerings on the altar of the LORD, according to the command of King Josiah.The Israelites who were present in Judah also observed the Passover at that time and the Festival of Unleavened Bread for seven days.No Passover had been observed like it in Israel since the days of the prophet Samuel. None of the kings of Israel ever observed a Passover like the one that Josiah observed with the priests, the Levites, all Judah, the Israelites who were present in Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand by the sea; they were eating, drinking, and rejoicing.Solomon ruled all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines and as far as the border of Egypt. They offered tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.Solomon’s provisions for one day were 180 bushels of fine flour and 360 bushels of meal,ten fattened cattle, twenty range cattle, and a hundred sheep and goats, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and pen-fed poultry,

Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts,

Then Josiah donated thirty thousand sheep, lambs, and young goats, plus three thousand cattle from his own possessions, for the Passover sacrifices for all the lay people who were present.His officials also donated willingly for the people, the priests, and the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, chief officials of God’s temple, gave twenty-six hundred Passover sacrifices and three hundred cattle for the priests.

But give from what is within to the poor, and then everything is clean for you.

He did what was right in the LORD’s sight and walked in the ways of his ancestor David; he did not turn aside to the right or the left.

Go, eat your bread with pleasure, and drink your wine with a cheerful heart, for God has already accepted your works.Let your clothes be white all the time, and never let oil be lacking on your head.Enjoy life with the wife you love all the days of your fleeting life, which has been given to you under the sun, all your fleeting days. For that is your portion in life and in your struggle under the sun.Whatever your hands find to do, do with all your strength, because there is no work, planning, knowledge, or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.
