    制造偶像的人尽都虚空,他们所喜悦的全无益处;偶像的见证人毫无所见,毫无所知,以致他们羞愧。谁制造神像,铸造偶像?这些都是无益的。看哪,他的同伙都必羞愧。工匠不过是人,任他们聚集,任他们站立吧!他们都必惧怕,一同羞愧。铁匠用工具在火炭上工作,用锤打出形状,用他有力的膀臂来锤。他因饥饿而无力气;因未喝水而疲倦。木匠拉线,用笔划出样子,用刨子刨成形状,又用圆规划了模样。他仿照人的体态,做出美妙的人形,放在庙里。他砍伐香柏树,又取杉树和橡树,在树林中让它茁壮;或栽种松树,得雨水滋润长大。这树,人可用以生火;他拿一些来取暖,又搧火烤饼,而且做神像供跪拜,做雕刻的偶像向它叩拜。他将一半的木头烧在火中,用它烤肉来吃;吃饱了,就自己取暖说:“啊哈,我暖和了,我看到火了!”然后又用剩下的一半做了一个神明,就是雕刻的偶像,向这偶像俯伏叩拜,向它祷告说:“求你拯救我,因你是我的神明。”他们既无知,又不思想;因为耶和华蒙蔽他们的眼,使他们看不见,塞住他们的心,使他们不明白。没有一个心里醒悟,有知识,有聪明,能说:“我曾拿一部分用火燃烧,在炭火上烤饼,也烤肉来吃。这剩下的,我岂要做可憎之像吗?我岂可向木头叩拜呢?”他以灰尘为食,心里迷糊,以致偏邪,不能自救,也不能说:“我右手中岂不是有虚谎吗?”
