Your evil will chastise you, and your apostasy will reprove you. Know and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God; the fear of me is not in you, declares the Lord God of hosts.

爾之惡行、使爾受刑、爾之違逆、使爾受譴、爾可知可見爾棄主爾之天主、不敬畏我、必至遭難受苦、此乃主萬有之天主所言、

Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you. Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the Lord your God and have no awe of me,” declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

You will be punished because you have sinned. You will be corrected for turning away from me. I am the Lord your God. If you desert me, bad things will happen to you. If you do not respect me, you will suffer bitterly. I want you to understand that,” announces the Lord who rules over all.

Your wickedness will bring its own punishment. Your turning from me will shame you. You will see what an evil, bitter thing it is to abandon the Lord your God and not to fear him. I, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!

Your ways and your deeds have brought this upon you. This is your doom, and it is bitter; it has reached your very heart.”

I will turn your feasts into mourning and all your songs into lamentation; I will bring sackcloth on every waist and baldness on every head; I will make it like the mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day.

Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes.

Have you not brought this upon yourself by forsaking the Lord your God, when he led you in the way?

Therefore a lion from the forest shall strike them down; a wolf from the desert shall devastate them. A leopard is watching their cities; everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many, their apostasies are great.

My people are bent on turning away from me, and though they call out to the Most High, he shall not raise them up at all.

therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices.

Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity.

Like a stubborn heifer, Israel is stubborn; can the Lord now feed them like a lamb in a broad pasture?

The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him, and he is held fast in the cords of his sin.

But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear.

His bones are full of his youthful vigor, but it will lie down with him in the dust.“ Though evil is sweet in his mouth, though he hides it under his tongue,though he is loath to let it go and holds it in his mouth,yet his food is turned in his stomach; it is the venom of cobras within him.He swallows down riches and vomits them up again; God casts them out of his belly.He will suck the poison of cobras; the tongue of a viper will kill him.

Why then has this people turned away in perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit; they refuse to return.

And the Lord said to me,“ Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say,“‘ Return, faithless Israel, declares the Lord. I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful, declares the Lord; I will not be angry forever.Only acknowledge your guilt, that you rebelled against the Lord your God and scattered your favors among foreigners under every green tree, and that you have not obeyed my voice, declares the Lord.Return, O faithless children, declares the Lord; for I am your master; I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

The Lord said to me in the days of King Josiah:“ Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and there played the whore?And I thought,‘ After she has done all this she will return to me,’ but she did not return, and her treacherous sister Judah saw it.She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce. Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore.

And now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will remove its hedge, and it shall be devoured; I will break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down.
