從埃及東面的西曷河往北、直到以革倫境界，就算迦南人的地；那裏有非利士人五個霸主：就是迦薩人、亞實突人、亞實基倫人、迦特人、以革倫人；並有亞衛人

以法蓮好像鴿子愚蠢無心思：呼求埃及，投奔亞述。

有禍啊！那些下埃及去求幫助的！他們依靠馬匹，倚賴車輛，因為很多；他們倚賴馬兵，因為馬兵極強壯，他們卻不仰望以色列之聖者，永恆主、他們竟不求問！

你為甚麼這樣東奔西跑，要改變你的路呢？你必因埃及而蒙羞，像你因亞述而蒙羞一樣。

法老的軍隊已經從埃及出來；那圍困耶路撒冷的迦勒底人聽見了這風聲，就拔營離開耶路撒冷而去。那時永恆主的話傳與神言人耶利米說：『永恆主以色列之上帝這麼說：猶大王打發了你們來求問我，你們要對他這麼說：「看吧，法老的軍隊、那出來幫助你們的，必回埃及它本地去。迦勒底人必再來攻擊這城；將城攻取，放火焚燒。永恆主這麼說：你們不要自己欺騙自己說：『迦勒底人一定會離開我們』；他們是不離開的。就使你們擊敗了那攻擊你們的迦勒底人全軍，其中只剩下一些被刺重傷的人，他們也會各從自己的帳棚裏起來，放火焚燒這城的。」』

以法蓮見自己有病，猶大見自己有傷，以法蓮就打發人到亞述去，差遣人去見那大王，他卻不能醫治你們，不能把你們的傷治好。

亞述王提革拉毘尼色上到他那裏，卻使他受困迫，並沒有使他得助力。亞哈斯剝取了永恆主殿裏和王宮中跟首領家裏的財物給亞述王，也無濟於事。

我們的眼還直昏花迷糊，盼着幫助我們的，而盼個空；我們在瞭望台上直瞭望着不能拯救我們、的國。

但他卻背叛了巴王，反而差遣使者往埃及去，要他們給他馬匹和許多兵丁。他哪能順利成功呢？行這樣事的人哪能逃脫呢？違反了盟約哪能逃脫呢？

亞哈斯差遣了使者去見亞述王提革拉毘列色，說：『我是你的僕人、你的兒子；現在亞蘭王和以色列王起來攻擊我；求你上來拯救我脫離他們的手掌。』亞哈斯將永恆主殿裏和王宮府庫裏所有的金銀都送給亞述王做禮物。亞述王應允了他，就上去攻打大馬色，奪取那城，使它的居民流亡到吉珥，又將利汛殺死。

永恆主發神諭說：『有禍啊，這些悖逆的兒女！設下計謀，卻不由於我！奠酒結盟，卻不由於我的靈，以致罪上加罪！他們起身下埃及去，並沒有求問我的許可，就要在法老的保護下去逃難，在埃及的蔭庇下去躲避！故此法老的保護必變為你們的慚愧，躲避於埃及的蔭庇下必成為你們的恥辱。因為他的首領雖已在瑣安，他的使者雖抵達了哈內斯，但他們都必因無益的族民而慚愧；那族民帶來的並不是幫助，也不是益處，只是慚愧與羞辱而已。』他們用南地的牲畜馱財物，經過艱難困苦之地，有公獅、母獅、蝮蛇和能飛的火蛇之地，把資財馱在驢駒的脊背上，將寶物馱在駱駝的肉鞍上，到無益的族民那裏去。因為埃及的幫助是徒然而空洞的；故此我稱牠為「坐而不動的拉哈伯」。
