There are times, Jeremiah, when I threaten to uproot, tear down, and destroy a nation or kingdom.

我論一族、或論一國之時、言欲拔之、毀之、翦滅之、

始我命邦國、必當翦滅、撥其根本、而彼邦國、悛改厥行、則我欲降之災、必不行焉。

如我言、某邦某國、當敗當毀當滅、

If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed,

Suppose I announce that something will happen to a nation or kingdom. Suppose I announce that it will be pulled up by the roots. And I announce that it will be torn down and destroyed.

If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it,

If I announce that a certain nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down, and destroyed,

At one moment I might announce concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will uproot, tear down, and destroy it.

At one moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to uproot it, to tear it down, or to destroy it;

The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it,

At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it;

At one moment I might announce concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will uproot, tear down, and destroy it.

[ At what] instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy[ it];

At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it;

Know for certain that I hereby give you the authority to announce to nations and kingdoms that they will be uprooted and torn down, destroyed and demolished, rebuilt and firmly planted.”

“ I, the LORD, also have something to say concerning the wicked nations who surround my land and have attacked and plundered the land that I gave to my people as a permanent possession. I say:‘ I will uproot the people of those nations from their lands and I will free the people of Judah who have been taken there.But after I have uprooted the people of those nations, I will relent and have pity on them. I will restore the people of each of those nations to their own lands and to their own country.But they must make sure you learn to follow the religious practices of my people. Once they taught my people to swear their oaths using the name of the god Baal. But then, they must swear oaths using my name, saying,“ As surely as the LORD lives, I swear.” If they do these things, then they will be included among the people I call my own.But I will completely uproot and destroy any of those nations that will not pay heed,’” says the LORD.

So I, the LORD, affirm that I will send for all the peoples of the north and my servant, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and all the nations that surround it. I will utterly destroy this land, its inhabitants, and all the nations that surround it and make them everlasting ruins. I will make them objects of horror and hissing scorn.I will put an end to the sounds of joy and gladness, to the glad celebration of brides and grooms in these lands. I will put an end to the sound of people grinding meal. I will put an end to lamps shining in their houses.This whole area will become a desolate wasteland. These nations will be subject to the king of Babylon for seventy years.’“‘ But when the seventy years are over, I will punish the king of Babylon and his nation for their sins. I will make the land of Babylon an everlasting ruin. I, the LORD, affirm it!I will bring on that land everything that I said I would. I will bring on it everything that is written in this book. I will bring on it everything that Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations.For many nations and great kings will make slaves of the king of Babylon and his nation too. I will repay them for all they have done!’”

The LORD told Jeremiah,“ Tell Baruch,‘ The LORD says,“ I am about to tear down what I have built and to uproot what I have planted. I will do this throughout the whole earth.

Look, the sovereign LORD is watching the sinful nation, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth. But I will not completely destroy the family of Jacob,” says the LORD.

When Jonah began to enter the city one day’s walk, he announced,“ At the end of forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown!”
