I have not run away from being your shepherd; you know I have not desired the day of despair. What passes my lips is open before you.

I haven’t run away from being the shepherd of your people. You know I haven’t wanted the day of Jerusalem’s fall to come. You are aware of every word that comes from my lips.

Lord, I have not abandoned my job as a shepherd for your people. I have not urged you to send disaster. You have heard everything I’ve said.

But I have not run away from being your shepherd, and I have not longed for the fatal day. You know my words were spoken in your presence.

But as for me, I have not hurried away from being a shepherd following after You, Nor have I longed for the disastrous day; You Yourself know that the utterance of my lips Was in Your presence.

As for me, I have not hurried away from being a shepherd who follows You, Nor have I desired the woeful day; You know what came out of my lips; It was right there before You.

“ So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me.If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.

Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.

The Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness in the heat of my spirit, the hand of the Lord being strong upon me.And I came to the exiles at Tel-abib, who were dwelling by the Chebar canal, and I sat where they were dwelling. And I sat there overwhelmed among them seven days.And at the end of seven days, the word of the Lord came to me:“ Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”Then I said,“ Ah, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.”But the Lord said to me,“ Do not say,‘ I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord.”Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me,“ Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”

But if you will not listen, my soul will weep in secret for your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears, because the Lord’s flock has been taken captive.

I am speaking the truth in Christ— I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit—that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.

Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.

For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah,“ I was no prophet, nor a prophet’s son, but I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs.But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me,‘ Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’

“ You shall say to them this word:‘ Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people is shattered with a great wound, with a very grievous blow.If I go out into the field, behold, those pierced by the sword! And if I enter the city, behold, the diseases of famine! For both prophet and priest ply their trade through the land and have no knowledge.’”Have you utterly rejected Judah? Does your soul loathe Zion? Why have you struck us down so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; for a time of healing, but behold, terror.We acknowledge our wickedness, O Lord, and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against you.Do not spurn us, for your name’s sake; do not dishonor your glorious throne; remember and do not break your covenant with us.

Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have dug a pit for my life. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.

for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.

how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you in public and from house to house,

If I say,“ I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,” there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.
