你們為甚麼用銀子去買那不是食物的呢？為甚麼用你們勞碌得來的去買那不能使人飽足的呢？你們要留心聽我的話，就可以吃美物，使你們的心靈享受肥甘。

眾民勞碌得來的，被火焚燒；列國辛勞而得的，終歸無有。這不都出於萬軍之耶和華嗎？

我觀看，肥美田園變為荒野；在耶和華面前，就是在他烈怒之下，所有的城市都被拆毀。

因為耶和華猛烈的怒氣，平靜的羊圈毀壞了。他像獅子離開了洞穴，他們的國土實在變成荒野，因為欺壓人的刀劍（“刀劍”有古抄本作“猛烈”），和他猛烈的怒氣臨到他們。

那麼，你們在現今以為羞恥的事上，當時得了甚麼呢？那些事的結局就是死。

耶和華說：“這些悖逆的兒女有禍了！他們實行計謀，卻不是出於我的意思，他們結盟，卻不是出於我的靈，以致罪上加罪。他們起程下埃及去，並沒有求問我，卻要在法老的保護下，作避難處，投靠在埃及的蔭庇下。因此，法老的保護必成為你們的羞恥，投靠在埃及的蔭庇下，變成你們的恥辱。他們的領袖雖然已在瑣安，他們的使臣雖然已到達哈內斯，但他們都必因那對於他們毫無利益的人民而蒙羞，那人民帶來的不是幫助或益處，而是羞恥和凌辱。”以下是論南地野獸的默示：他們把財富馱在驢駒的背上，把寶物馱在駱駝的峰上，經過艱難困苦之地，就是公獅、母獅、蝮蛇和會飛的火蛇出沒的地方，到一個對他們毫無益處的民族那裡去。

那時你們怎樣呢？有人到穀堆來，想得兩百公斤穀，卻只得一百公斤；有人到榨酒池去，想從酒槽得一百公升酒，卻只得四十公升。耶和華說：‘我用旱風、霉爛和冰雹擊打你們，和你們手裡的一切工作，你們還是不歸向我。

小山和大山上的喧嚷，真是徒然的，以色列的救恩誠然在於耶和華我們的神。從我們幼年以來，我們列祖勞苦得來的，他們的牛羊，他們的兒女，都給那可恥的偶像吞掉了。但願我們躺臥在羞恥中，讓慚愧遮蓋著我們！因為我們得罪了耶和華我們的神，從我們幼年直到現在，我們和列祖都沒有聽從耶和華我們的神的話。”

那些下埃及求幫助，倚靠馬匹，倚靠眾多戰車，依靠十分強壯的馬兵，卻不仰望以色列的聖者，也不求問耶和華的，有禍了！耶和華是智慧的，他必降下災禍，決不收回自己的話，卻要起來攻擊作惡者之家，又攻擊那些助人作孽的。埃及人是人，並不是神；他們的馬匹是血肉，並不是靈；耶和華一伸手，那幫助人的就絆倒，那受幫助的也必仆倒，並且一同滅亡。
