Now the Ephraimites asked Gideon,“ Why have you treated us like this? Why didn’t you call us when you went to fight Midian?” And they challenged him vigorously.

The men of Ephraim asked Gideon,“ Why have you treated us like this? Why didn’t you ask us to help you when you went out to fight against Midian?” In anger they challenged Gideon.

Then the men of Ephraim said to him,“ What is this that you have done to us, not to call us when you went to fight against Midian?” And they accused him fiercely.

Then the people of Ephraim asked Gideon,“ Why have you treated us this way? Why didn’t you send for us when you first went out to fight the Midianites?” And they argued heatedly with Gideon.

The men of Ephraim said to him,“ Why have you done this to us, not calling us when you went to fight against the Midianites?” And they argued with him violently.

Then the men of Ephraim said to Gideon,“ What is this thing that you have done to us, not calling upon us when you went to fight against Midian?” And they quarreled with him vehemently.

Now the men of Ephraim said to him,“ Why have you done this to us by not calling us when you went to fight with the Midianites?” And they reprimanded him sharply.

And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with Midian? And they did chide with him sharply.

以色列眾人都來見王，問王說：“我們的兄弟猶大人為甚麼把你偷去了，把王和王的家眷接過約旦河呢？屬大衛的人不都一樣是他的人民嗎？”

我看見各樣的勞碌和各樣精巧的工作，都是出於人與人彼此的競爭。這也是虛空，也是捕風。

煩惱殺死愚昧人，激情害死愚蒙人。

以法蓮人聚集起來，過河到了撒分，對耶弗他說：“你過去攻打亞捫人的時候，為甚麼沒有召我們與你同去呢？我們要用火燒掉你和你的房屋。”耶弗他對他們說：“我和我的人民跟亞捫人激烈爭戰的時候，我曾經呼求你們，你們卻沒有來救我們脫離他們的手。我見你們不來拯救我，我就拚命上去攻擊亞捫人，耶和華就把他們交在我的手裡。你們今日為甚麼上我這裡來攻打我呢？”於是耶弗他召集了基列所有的人，與以法蓮人爭戰；基列人擊殺了以法蓮人，因為以法蓮人曾經說過：“你們基列人在以法蓮和瑪拿西中間，不過是以法蓮逃亡的人罷了。”基列人佔領約旦河的各渡口，不容以法蓮人過去。如果以法蓮逃亡的人說：“讓我過去吧。”基列人就問他：“你是以法蓮人嗎？”如果他說：“不是。”基列人就對他說：“請說‘示播列’。”以法蓮人因為發不出準確的字音，就說成“西播列”；基列人就把他捉住，在約旦河的渡口那裡殺了；那時以法蓮人死了四萬二千人。

聖經說：“神愛他那安置在我們裡面的靈，愛到嫉妒的地步”（或譯：“神安置在我們裡面的靈，愛到嫉妒的地步”），你們想這話是徒然的嗎？但神所賜的恩更大；所以聖經上說：“神對抗驕傲的人，賜恩給謙卑的人。”
