“ Pardon me, sir,” Gideon replied,“ but how can I possibly save Israel? My family group is the weakest in the tribe of Manasseh. And I’m the least important member of my family.”

基甸对他说：“唉，我主啊，我凭着什么拯救以色列人呢？看哪，我的家族在玛拿西支派中是最卑微的，我在我的父家是最年轻的。”

基甸對他說：『唉，我主啊，我拿甚麼來拯救以色列呢？你看，我的族系在瑪拿西中是至卑微的，我、我在我父家又是至微小的。』

曰、主歟、瑪拿西中、我家至貧、在我父家、我又至微、何以拯以色列人乎、

曰、我主與、馬拿西族中我家貧乏、我父之家我又至微、焉能拯以色列族乎。

曰、我主歟、我家在瑪拿西支派中至貧、我在我父之家又至微、憑何者以救以色列人乎、

“ Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied,“ but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”

And he said to him,“ Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”

“ But Lord,” Gideon replied,“ how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”

He said to him,“ Please, Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Look, my family is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s family.”

But he said to Him,“ O Lord, how am I to save Israel? Behold, my family is the least in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s house.”

So he said to Him,“ O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”

And he said unto him, Oh, Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

He said to Him,“ Please, Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Look, my family is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s house.”

And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family[ is] poor in Manasseh, and I[ am] the least in my father’s house.

Gideon said to him,“ But Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Just look! My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my family.”

He said to him,“ O Lord, how shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”

But Moses spoke to God.“ Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” he said.“ Who am I that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

Saul answered,“ But I’m from the tribe of Benjamin. It’s the smallest tribe in Israel. And my family group is the least important in the whole tribe of Benjamin. So why are you saying that to me?”

You have been very kind and faithful to me. But I’m not worthy of any of this. When I crossed this Jordan River, all I had was my walking stick. But now I’ve become two camps.

I am the least important of the apostles. I’m not even fit to be called an apostle. I tried to destroy God’s church.

“ You are my Lord and King,” I said.“ I don’t know how to speak. I’m too young.”

Moses spoke to the Lord. He said,“ Lord, I’ve never been a good speaker. And I haven’t gotten any better since you spoke to me. I don’t speak very well at all.”

So listen to what the Lord has planned against Babylon. Hear what he has planned against the land of the Babylonians. Their young people will be dragged away. Their grasslands will be shocked at their fate.

I am by far the least important of all the Lord’s holy people. But he gave me the grace to preach to the Gentiles about the unlimited riches that Christ gives.

Saul’s attendants spoke those very words to David. But David said,“ Do you think it’s a small thing to become the king’s son- in- law? I’m only a poor man. I’m not very well known.”

But choose men of ability from all the people. They must have respect for God. You must be able to trust them. They must not try to get money by cheating others. Appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.Let them serve the people as judges. But have them bring every hard case to you. They can decide the easy ones themselves. That will make your load lighter. They will share it with you.If this is what God wants and if you do it, then you will be able to carry the load. And all these people will go home satisfied.”Moses listened to his father- in- law. He did everything Jethro said.He chose men of ability from the whole community of Israel. He made them leaders of the people. They became officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.

The Lord says,“ Bethlehem Ephrathah, you might not be an important town in the nation of Judah. But out of you will come for me a ruler over Israel. His family line goes back to the early years of your nation. It goes all the way back to days of long ago.”

“ How can this happen?” Mary asked the angel.“ I am a virgin.”
