求你待他們好像待米甸人，像在基順河待西西拉和耶賓一樣；

他們卻忘記了耶和華他們的神，神就把他們交在夏瑣的將軍西西拉的手中，以及非利士人和摩押王的手中，於是這些人常常攻打他們。

耶和華的怒氣向以色列人發作，就把他們交在非利士人的手中和亞捫人的手中。

那時，約書亞轉回來，佔領了夏瑣，用刀擊殺了夏瑣王，因為夏瑣在這些國中素來是為首的。以色列人用刀擊殺了城中所有的人，把他們完全毀滅；有氣息的一個也沒有留下；約書亞又放火燒了夏瑣。

他沒有錢償還，主人就下令叫人把他和他的妻子兒女，以及一切所有的都賣掉，用來償還。

耶和華這樣說：“我離棄了你們的母親，休書在哪裡呢？或者我的債主中，哪一個是我把你們賣了給他的呢？看哪！你們被賣是因你們的罪孽；你們的母親被離棄是因你們的過犯。

耶和華的怒氣向以色列人發作，就把他們交在搶掠的人手中，他們就搶掠他們；他又把他們完全交在他們四圍的仇敵手中，以致他們在仇敵面前再不能站立得住。他們無論去哪裡，耶和華的手總是加害他們，好像耶和華說過的，又像耶和華對他們起誓過的；他們就非常困苦。
