非利士人列陣，要與以色列人交戰。戰事展開後，以色列人敗在非利士人面前，非利士人在戰場上殺了約四千人。軍隊回到營裡，以色列的長老說：“今天耶和華為甚麼在非利士人面前擊敗我們呢？我們要把耶和華的約櫃從示羅抬到我們這裡來。約櫃一到我們中間，就會拯救我們脫離仇敵的手。”

米迦這人有一間神廟，又製造以弗得和家中的神像，並且立了他的一個兒子作祭司。

於是非利士人起來作戰，以色列人就被擊敗，各人都往自己的帳棚逃跑。這是一場大屠殺，以色列人中有三萬步兵陣亡。神的約櫃也被搶去，以利的兩個兒子何弗尼和非尼哈也死了。

米迦就把那十二公斤銀子歸還給他母親；他母親說：“我把這些銀子從我手中分別為聖，為我的兒子歸給耶和華，好做一個雕像，一個鑄像；現在，我要還給你。”

西坡拉生了一個兒子，摩西給他起名叫革舜，因為他說：“我在異地作了客旅。”

他丟棄了在示羅的居所，就是他在世人中間居住的帳棚。他又把象徵他權能的約櫃交給人擄去，把他的榮美交在敵人的手裡，並且把自己的子民交給刀劍，向自己的產業大發烈怒。

以色列人又行了耶和華看為惡的事，耶和華就把他們交在非利士人手中四十年。

“‘製造耶和華厭惡的雕像或鑄像，工人手中做的，並且在暗處設立的，那人必受咒詛。’眾民都要應聲說：‘阿們。’

又帶著西坡拉的兩個兒子，一個名叫革舜，因為摩西說：“我在異地作了客旅”；

“在你中間，就是耶和華你的神賜給你的任何一座城裡，如果發現有人，無論是男是女，行耶和華你的神眼中看為惡的事，違犯了他的約，去事奉別的神，並且敬拜它們，敬拜太陽或月亮，或任何天象，是我耶和華沒有吩咐的；有人告訴你，你也聽見了，就要好好調查；如果確有這些事，真的在以色列中行了這可憎可厭的事；你就要把那個行了這惡事的男人或女人帶出來，到城門那裡去，用石頭把他們打死。憑著兩個或三個見證人的口供，就可以把那該死的人處死；只是憑著一個見證人的口供，卻不可以把人處死。見證人要先下手，然後眾民也下手，把他處死。這樣，你就把那惡從你中間除掉。

“你們不可為自己做偶像，不可為自己立雕像或神柱，也不可在你們的境內安置石像，向它跪拜；因為我是耶和華你們的神。

他把多國的地土賜給他們，他們就承受眾民勞碌的成果，為要使他們謹守他的律例，遵守他的律法。你們要讚美耶和華。

因為我知道我死了以後，你們必完全敗壞，偏離我吩咐你們的道路；在末後的日子必有災禍臨到你們身上，因為你們必行耶和華看為惡的事，以你們手所作的事，惹他發怒。”

“不可為自己做偶像，也不可做天上、地下和地底下水中各物的形象。

耶和華對摩西說：“看哪，你快要和你的列祖長眠了；這人民要起來，在他們所要去的地方，在那地的人中，與外族人的神行邪淫，離棄我，破壞我與他們所立的約。
