非利士人抢去神的约柜，把它抬进大衮庙，放在大衮神像的旁边。第二天清早，亚实突人起来，看见大衮神像仆倒在地，俯伏在耶和华的约柜面前。他们就把大衮神像竖立起来，放回原处。再次日早晨，他们起来的时候，看见大衮神像又仆倒在地，俯伏在耶和华的约柜面前，大衮的头和双手也都在门槛上折断了，只剩下大衮的身体。因此大衮的祭司和所有进亚实突大衮庙的人，都不踏大衮庙的门槛，直到现在。

他们用必朽坏的人、飞禽、走兽和昆虫的形象，取代了永不朽坏的神的荣耀。因此，神就任凭他们顺着心中的私欲去作污秽的事，以致羞辱自己的身体。他们用虚谎取代了神的真理，敬拜事奉受造之物，却不敬拜事奉造物的主。他是永远可称颂的，阿们。

现在他们以我为歌曲，我竟成了他们的笑柄。他们厌恶我，远远地离开我，又不住吐唾沫在我脸上，

他们把扫罗的兵器放在他们的神庙里，把他的头挂在大衮庙中。

你的仇敌跌倒的时候，你不要欢喜；他绊倒的时候，你心里不可欢乐。

但我跌倒的时候，他们竟聚集一起欢庆；我素不相识的聚集一起攻击我，他们不住地欺凌我。他们以最粗鄙的话讥笑我（按照《马索拉文本》，本句应作“他们好像筵席上狂妄的讥笑者”；现参照《七十士译本》翻译），向我咬牙切齿。

我是说，教外人所祭的是鬼，不是献给神；我却不愿意你们与鬼来往。

虽然，万民各奉自己神的名行事，我们却要永远奉耶和华我们神的名而行。”

关于吃祭过偶像的食物，我们知道世上的偶像算不得什么，也知道神只有一位，没有别的神。虽然有被称为神的，无论在天上或在地上（就如有许多的“神”许多的“主”），

有哪一国把自己的神换掉呢？其实那些并不是神。我的子民竟把他们的荣耀，换了无益的偶像。
