But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:“ God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

Though the LORD is exalted, he takes note of the lowly, and recognizes the proud from far away.

Before destruction the heart of a person is proud, but humility comes before honor.

A person’s pride will bring him low, but one who has a lowly spirit will gain honor.

There are six things that the LORD hates, even seven things that are an abomination to him:haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

When people are brought low and you say‘ Lift them up!’ then he will save the downcast;

Proud men will be brought low, arrogant men will be humiliated; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.Indeed, the LORD who commands armies has planned a day of judgment, for all the high and mighty, for all who are proud– they will be humiliated;

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, for all his deeds are right and his ways are just. He is able to bring down those who live in pride.

The reward for humility and fearing the LORD is riches and honor and life.

Proud men will be humiliated, arrogant men will be brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

For this is what the high and exalted one says, the one who rules forever, whose name is holy:“ I dwell in an exalted and holy place, but also with the discouraged and humiliated, in order to cheer up the humiliated and to encourage the discouraged.

I tell you that this man went down to his home justified rather than the Pharisee. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

The fear of the LORD provides wise instruction, and before honor comes humility.

In his pain Manasseh asked the LORD his God for mercy and truly humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.

He did not humble himself before the LORD as his father Manasseh had done. Amon was guilty of great sin.

He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position;

Don’t keep speaking so arrogantly, letting proud talk come out of your mouth! For the LORD is a God who knows; he evaluates what people do.

‘ You displayed a sensitive spirit and humbled yourself before God when you heard his words concerning this place and its residents. You humbled yourself before me, tore your clothes and wept before me, and I have heard you,’ says the LORD.

But then Hezekiah and the residents of Jerusalem humbled themselves and abandoned their pride, and the LORD was not angry with them for the rest of Hezekiah’s reign.

Samaria like Damascus?I overpowered kingdoms ruled by idols, whose carved images were more impressive than Jerusalem’s or Samaria’s.As I have done to Samaria and its idols, so I will do to Jerusalem and its idols.”But when the sovereign master finishes judging Mount Zion and Jerusalem, then I will punish the king of Assyria for what he has proudly planned and for the arrogant attitude he displays.For he says:“ By my strong hand I have accomplished this, by my strategy that I devised. I invaded the territory of nations, and looted their storehouses. Like a mighty conqueror, I brought down rulers.My hand discovered the wealth of the nations, as if it were in a nest, as one gathers up abandoned eggs, I gathered up the whole earth. There was no wing flapping, or open mouth chirping.”

So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh and told him,“ Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews:‘ How long do you refuse to humble yourself before me? Release my people so that they may serve me!But if you refuse to release my people, I am going to bring locusts into your territory tomorrow.

For whoever has will be given more, and will have an abundance. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.

We have heard about Moab’s pride, their great arrogance, their boasting, pride, and excess. But their boastful claims are empty!So Moab wails over its demise– they all wail! Completely devastated, they moan about what has happened to the raisin cakes of Kir Hareseth.

Adorn yourself, then, with majesty and excellency, and clothe yourself with glory and honor!Scatter abroad the abundance of your anger. Look at every proud man and bring him low;Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot!

“ For a short time I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will gather you.

For the one who takes revenge against murderers took notice of the oppressed; he did not overlook their cry for help

The Annals of the Prophets include his prayer, give an account of how the LORD responded to it, record all his sins and unfaithful acts, and identify the sites where he built high places and erected Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself.

The enemy said,‘ I will chase, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my desire will be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, my hand will destroy them.’But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
