When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

When you do ask for something, you don’t receive it. That’s because you ask for the wrong reason. You want to spend your money on your sinful pleasures.

You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong— you want only what will give you pleasure.

You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

You ask and do not receive, because you ask with the wrong motives, so that you may spend what you request on your pleasures.

You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? (niv)

The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him. (niv)

Then they will cry out to the Lord, but he will not answer them. At that time he will hide his face from them because of the evil they have done. (niv)

If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer. (niv)

“ You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said.“ Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?” (niv)

They cried for help, but there was no one to save them— to the Lord, but he did not answer. (niv)

For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, when God takes away their life?Does God listen to their cry when distress comes upon them?Will they find delight in the Almighty? Will they call on God at all times? (niv)

“‘ When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,’ says the Lord Almighty. (niv)

Therefore this is what the Lord says:‘ I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them. (niv)

Although they fast, I will not listen to their cry; though they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Instead, I will destroy them with the sword, famine and plague.” (niv)

Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered. (niv)

“ Do not pray for this people or offer any plea or petition for them, because I will not listen when they call to me in the time of their distress. (niv)

When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood!Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. (niv)

“ Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me, (niv)

“ You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them.“ Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?”“ We can,” they answered. (niv)

The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable— how much more so when brought with evil intent! (niv)

He does not answer when people cry out because of the arrogance of the wicked. (niv)

“ Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. (niv)

Jesus told his disciples:“ There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions.So he called him in and asked him,‘ What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’ (niv)

But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’ (niv)
