不要為明日自誇，因為一日要生何事，你尚且不能知道。

自己心裏思想說：『我的出產沒有地方收藏，怎麼辦呢？』又說：『我要這麼辦：要把我的倉房拆了，另蓋更大的，在那裏好收藏我一切的糧食和財物，然後要對我的靈魂說：靈魂哪，你有許多財物積存，可作多年的費用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快樂吧！』神卻對他說：『無知的人哪，今夜必要你的靈魂；你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

他們彼此商量說：「來吧！我們要做磚，把磚燒透了。」他們就拿磚當石頭，又拿石漆當灰泥。他們說：「來吧！我們要建造一座城和一座塔，塔頂通天，為要傳揚我們的名，免得我們分散在全地上。」

那時百姓怎樣，祭司也怎樣；僕人怎樣，主人也怎樣；婢女怎樣，主母也怎樣；買物的怎樣，賣物的也怎樣；放債的怎樣，借債的也怎樣；取利的怎樣，出利的也怎樣。

我心裏說：「來吧，我以喜樂試試你，你好享福！」誰知，這也是虛空。

嗐！你們這些富足人哪，應當哭泣、號咷，因為將有苦難臨到你們身上。

哀哭的，要像不哀哭；快樂的，要像不快樂；置買的，要像無有所得；

我們下去，在那裏變亂他們的口音，使他們的言語彼此不通。」

現在我告訴你們，我要向我葡萄園怎樣行：我必撤去籬笆，使它被吞滅，拆毀牆垣，使它被踐踏。

時候到了，日子近了，買主不可歡喜，賣主不可愁煩，因為烈怒已經臨到他們眾人身上。

這些狗貪食，不知飽足。這些牧人不能明白－各人偏行己路，各從各方求自己的利益。他們說：來吧！我去拿酒，我們飽飲濃酒；明日必和今日一樣，就是宴樂無量極大之日。
