如是、舌為小體、而誇大焉、些須之火、能燃若大之林、

舌雖小而能誇大、薪甚多、微火可燃、

如是舌為小體、而能誇大、薪甚多、薪甚多或作林甚茂微火可燃、

舌在人身、亦復如是其形雖小、其誇實大。星星之火、可以燎原；

Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.

In the same way, the tongue is a small part of a person’s body. But it talks big. Think about how a small spark can set a big forest on fire.

So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!

生與死都在舌頭的權下；喜愛它的必食其果。

他們麻木的心封閉了，他們的口說話高傲。

智慧人的舌頭，使知識美妙；愚昧人的口，吐出愚妄。

他們譏諷、嘲笑，懷著惡意說欺壓人的話。他們說話出於高傲；他們開口褻瀆上天，他們的舌頭殃及全地。

勇士啊，你為什麼以作惡自誇呢？神的慈愛是長存的！行事詭詐的人哪，你的舌頭謀算奸惡，如同磨利的剃刀！

有人輕率說話，如刀刺人；智慧人的話語，使人痊癒。

因為惡人以自己心中的慾望自誇；貪婪的人詛咒並藐視耶和華。

人人向鄰舍說謊，他們說話油嘴滑舌，心懷二意。願耶和華剪除一切油滑的嘴唇和說大話的舌頭！他們說：「我們要靠舌頭強盛，我們的嘴唇是自己的，誰是我們的主呢？」

那獸被賜予了一張說大話和褻瀆話的口；牠又被賜予了權柄，可以任意行事四十二個月。牠就開口向神說褻瀆的話，褻瀆了他的名和他的居所，褻瀆了那些居住在天上的。

這些人滿腹抱怨，責怪他人，順著自己的欲望生活；他們嘴裡說誇大的話，為了利益諂媚他人。

開口說：「這大巴比倫，難道不是我以自己的權能力量建為國都，為要顯出我威嚴的尊榮嗎？」

他們說虛妄誇大的話，以肉體的欲望和好色的事來引誘人；這些被引誘的人好不容易才逃脫那些生活在迷途中的人；

現在，你們一聽見號角、豎笛、里拉琴、弦琴、豎琴、風笛和各種樂器的聲音，如果準備向我所造的像俯伏膜拜，那就沒有事了；如果不膜拜，你們就立刻被扔進烈火燃燒的窯中。有什麼神能從我的手中拯救你們呢？」
