as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which there are some things that are hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.

So while these nations feared the Lord, they also served their idols; their children likewise and their grandchildren, just as their fathers did, they do to this day.

They feared the Lord, yet they were serving their own gods in accordance with the custom of the nations from among whom they had been taken into exile.

“ The eye is the lamp of the body; so then, if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.

Ephraim is himself thrown about with the nations; Ephraim has become a round loaf not turned over.Strangers devour his strength, Yet he does not know it; Gray hairs also are sprinkled on him, Yet he does not know it.Though the pride of Israel testifies against him, Yet they have not returned to the Lord their God, Nor have they sought Him, despite all this.So Ephraim has become like a gullible dove, without sense; They call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.

Their heart is deceitful; Now they must suffer for their guilt. The Lord will break down their altars And destroy their memorial stones.
