The head is the elder, the honored one; the tail is the prophet, the one teaching lies.

the elders and dignitaries are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.

The elders and important leaders are the heads. The prophets who teach lies are the tails.

the elder and honored man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail;

The leaders of Israel are the head, and the lying prophets are the tail.

The head is the elder and esteemed man, And the prophet who teaches falsehood is the tail.

The elder and honorable, he is the head; The prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail.

heroes and warriors, judges and prophets, fortune-tellers and elders,commanders of fifty and dignitaries, counselors, cunning magicians, and necromancers.

For the LORD has poured out on you an overwhelming urge to sleep; he has shut your eyes( the prophets) and covered your heads( the seers).

For false messiahs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and teaching.For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear.

He said to him,“ I am also a prophet like you. An angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD:‘ Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat food and drink water.’” The old prophet deceived him,

Because you have disheartened the righteous person with lies( when I intended no distress), and because you have supported the wicked person so that he does not turn from his evil way to save his life,

But the beast was taken prisoner, and along with it the false prophet, who had performed the signs in its presence. He deceived those who accepted the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image with these signs. Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.

Concerning the prophets: My heart is broken within me, and all my bones tremble. I have become like a drunkard, like a man overcome by wine, because of the LORD, because of his holy words.

“ So I in turn have made you despised and humiliated before all the people because you are not keeping my ways but are showing partiality in your instruction.”

Therefore my people will go into exile because they lack knowledge; her dignitaries are starving, and her masses are parched with thirst.

“ I have heard what the prophets who prophesy a lie in my name have said:‘ I had a dream! I had a dream!’How long will this continue in the minds of the prophets prophesying lies, prophets of the deceit of their own minds?Through their dreams that they tell one another, they plan to cause my people to forget my name as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship.

This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says about Ahab son of Kolaiah and concerning Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, the ones prophesying a lie to you in my name:“ I am about to hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and he will kill them before your very eyes.Based on what happens to them, all the exiles of Judah who are in Babylon will create a curse that says,‘ May the LORD make you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire!’

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, a curse be on him!As we have said before, I now say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, a curse be on him!

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

“ Look,” the servant said,“ there’s a man of God in this city who is highly respected; everything he says is sure to come true. Let’s go there now. Maybe he’ll tell us which way we should go.”

Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are telling you,‘ Don’t serve the king of Babylon,’ for they are prophesying a lie to you.‘ I have not sent them’— this is the LORD’s declaration—‘ and they are prophesying falsely in my name; therefore, I will banish you, and you will perish— you and the prophets who are prophesying to you.’”

“ The LORD asked him,‘ How?’“ He said,‘ I will go and become a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’“ Then he said,‘ You will certainly entice him and prevail. Go and do that.’“ You see, the LORD has put a lying spirit into the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced disaster against you.”Then Zedekiah son of Chenaanah came up, hit Micaiah on the cheek, and demanded,“ Did the Spirit of the LORD leave me to speak to you?”

For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.So it is no great surprise if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will be according to their works.

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority. My people love it like this. But what will you do at the end of it?

The prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah,“ Listen, Hananiah! The LORD did not send you, but you have led these people to trust in a lie.Therefore, this is what the LORD says:‘ I am about to send you off the face of the earth. You will die this year because you have preached rebellion against the LORD.’”

But the LORD said to me,“ These prophets are prophesying a lie in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a false vision, worthless divination, the deceit of their own minds.“ Therefore, this is what the LORD says concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, though I did not send them, and who say,‘ There will never be sword or famine in this land.’ By sword and famine these prophets will meet their end.

The people will oppress one another, man against man, neighbor against neighbor; the young will act arrogantly toward the old, and the worthless toward the honorable.

Ephraim’s watchman is with my God. Yet the prophet encounters a bird trap on all his pathways. Hostility is in the house of his God!

There were indeed false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves.Many will follow their depraved ways, and the way of truth will be maligned because of them.They will exploit you in their greed with made-up stories. Their condemnation, pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.

So you should not listen to your prophets, diviners, dreamers, fortune-tellers, or sorcerers who say to you,‘ Don’t serve the king of Babylon!’They are prophesying a lie to you so that you will be removed from your land. I will banish you, and you will perish.

The word of the LORD came to me:“ Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are prophesying. Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination,‘ Hear the word of the LORD!This is what the Lord GOD says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing.Your prophets, Israel, are like jackals among ruins.You did not go up to the gaps or restore the wall around the house of Israel so that it might stand in battle on the day of the LORD.They saw false visions and their divinations were a lie. They claimed,“ This is the LORD’s declaration,” when the LORD did not send them, yet they wait for the fulfillment of their message.Didn’t you see a false vision and speak a lying divination when you proclaimed,“ This is the LORD’s declaration,” even though I had not spoken?“‘ Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: You have spoken falsely and had lying visions; that’s why you discover that I am against you. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and speak lying divinations. They will not be present in the council of my people or be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, and they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.“‘ Since they have led my people astray by saying,“ Peace,” when there is no peace, and since when a flimsy wall is being built, they plaster it with whitewash,therefore, tell those plastering it with whitewash that it will fall. Torrential rain will come, and I will send hailstones plunging down, and a whirlwind will be released.When the wall has fallen, will you not be asked,“ Where’s the whitewash you plastered on it?”“‘ So this is what the Lord GOD says: I will release a whirlwind in my wrath. Torrential rain will come in my anger, and hailstones will fall in destructive fury.I will demolish the wall you plastered with whitewash and knock it to the ground so that its foundation is exposed. The city will fall, and you will be destroyed within it. Then you will know that I am the LORD.After I exhaust my wrath against the wall and against those who plaster it with whitewash, I will say to you,“ The wall is no more and neither are those who plastered it—those prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem and saw a vision of peace for her when there was no peace.” This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.’

The coming of the lawless one is based on Satan’s working, with every kind of miracle, both signs and wonders serving the lie,and with every wicked deception among those who are perishing. They perish because they did not accept the love of the truth and so be saved.For this reason God sends them a strong delusion so that they will believe the lie,so that all will be condemned— those who did not believe the truth but delighted in unrighteousness.

And I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the mason’s level.” Hail will sweep away the false refuge, and water will flood your hiding place.

You profane me among my people for handfuls of barley and scraps of bread; you put those to death who should not die and spare those who should not live, when you lie to my people, who listen to lies.

Among the prophets of Jerusalem also I saw a horrible thing: They commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, and none turns his back on evil. They are all like Sodom to me; Jerusalem’s residents are like Gomorrah.Therefore, this is what the LORD of Armies says concerning the prophets: I am about to feed them wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink, for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has spread throughout the land.

“ Be on your guard against false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravaging wolves.
