No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the Lord.

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.

The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes.But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.

Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans?The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Why are you scheming against the Lord? He will destroy you with one blow; he won’t need to strike twice!His enemies, tangled like thornbushes and staggering like drunks, will be burned up like dry stubble in a field.Who is this wicked counselor of yours who plots evil against the Lord?This is what the Lord says:“ Though the Assyrians have many allies, they will be destroyed and disappear. O my people, I have punished you before, but I will not punish you again.

This plan seemed good to Absalom and to all the elders of Israel.

Manasseh even took a carved idol he had made and set it up in God’s Temple, the very place where God had told David and his son Solomon:“ My name will be honored forever in this Temple and in Jerusalem— the city I have chosen from among all the tribes of Israel.If the Israelites will be careful to obey my commands— all the laws, decrees, and regulations given through Moses— I will not send them into exile from this land that I set aside for your ancestors.”
