『愚昧而無心思的人民哪，有眼不能看、有耳不能聽的啊，你們要聽這話。

因為這人民的心給脂油蒙住了；他們以沉重的耳來聽，又把眼封閉着；恐怕他們用眼看見，用耳聽見，用心領悟，回轉過來，讓我醫治他們！」

我要向誰說話，而發警告，使他們聽呢？看哪，他們的耳朵沒受割禮，不能傾聽；看哪，永恆主的話、他們以為羞辱，不喜悅它。

光到了世界上來，人愛黑暗、而不愛光，因為他們的行為邪惡：這就是被定罪的因由。凡作壞事的都恨光，不來就光，恐怕他的行為被訐發；

你們列祖卻不肯留心聽從，反而扭轉肩頭，使耳朵沉重而不聽；

『但是你肥胖了，你粗壯了，你肚滿腸肥了！耶書崙肥胖了、就踢跳，背棄了造他的上帝，辱沒救他的磐石。

他們把心包油、給閉塞住；又弄口舌揚揚得意地說話。

因為永恆主將沉睡之靈傾注於你們；使你們的眼緊合着，使你們的頭蒙蓋着！

永恆主啊，你為甚麼使我們走錯、離開了你的道路？使我們硬着心、不敬畏你呢？為你僕人的緣故、為你產業之族派的緣故、回心轉意吧！

但是希實本王西宏不情願容我們從他那裏經過，因為永恆主你的上帝使他的靈剛愎、心意頑固，為要將他交在你手中、像今日一樣。

不是去找說話深奧、語言難懂的許多外族之民，他們的話是你不曉得聽的；我若差遣你去找他們，他們就必聽你。然而以色列家卻不肯聽你，因為他們不肯聽我；因為以色列全家原是頭額堅硬、心裏剛愎的人。看哪，我使你的頭皮堅硬以敵對他們的頭皮，使你的頭額堅硬以敵對他們的頭額。我使你的頭額像金鋼鑽，比火石更堅硬；他們雖是叛逆之家，你可不要怕他們，不要因他們的臉色而驚慌。』他又對我說：『人子啊，我要對你說的我一切的話、你都要心裏領會，耳中細聽。你去找你本國流亡的子民，他們或者聽，或者不聽，你總要對他們講話，向他們說：「主永恆主這麼說。」』

他們的心肥胖像脂油；我、卻喜悅你的律法。

我呢，你看吧，我要使埃及人的心頑強，他們就會跟着下去；我必在法老身上、在他的全軍、車輛和馬兵上得到榮耀。

摩西、亞倫在法老面前行了這一切奇事；永恆主使法老的心仍然頑強，不讓以色列人離開他的地。

永恆主必擊打埃及——又擊打又醫治——埃及人就回轉來歸向永恆主；永恆主就應允他們的懇求，醫治他們。

我必使法老的心剛硬；我必在埃及地多行我的神迹奇事；

但是永恆主使法老的心剛硬，不情願讓他們走。

對後一種人呢、就做徹頭徹尾死之氣味，對前一種人呢、就做徹頭徹尾活之氣味。要作這些事、誰能夠呢？

所以你們要悔改、回轉過來，使你們的罪得擦掉，使舒爽之時期從主面前來到，
