Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

Then Jesus said,“ Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

And I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good for them. I will put a desire in their hearts to worship me, and they will never leave me.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

O my people, listen to my instructions. Open your ears to what I am saying,

“ I will confirm my covenant with you and your descendants after you, from generation to generation. This is the everlasting covenant: I will always be your God and the God of your descendants after you.

However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them.

“ For I, the Lord, love justice. I hate robbery and wrongdoing. I will faithfully reward my people for their suffering and make an everlasting covenant with them.

For God had promised to raise him from the dead, not leaving him to rot in the grave. He said,‘ I will give you the sacred blessings I promised to David.’

In a burst of anger I turned my face away for a little while. But with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,” says the Lord, your Redeemer.

“ I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.“ And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice— the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live.

But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.”

I will love him and be kind to him forever; my covenant with him will never end.

Now may the God of peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—

If you obey my decrees and my regulations, you will find life through them. I am the Lord.

“ My servant David will be their king, and they will have only one shepherd. They will obey my regulations and be careful to keep my decrees.They will live in the land I gave my servant Jacob, the land where their ancestors lived. They and their children and their grandchildren after them will live there forever, generation after generation. And my servant David will be their prince forever.

I will never abandon the descendants of Jacob or David, my servant, or change the plan that David’s descendants will rule the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Instead, I will restore them to their land and have mercy on them.”

“ This is what the Lord says: If you can break my covenant with the day and the night so that one does not follow the other,only then will my covenant with my servant David be broken. Only then will he no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne. The same is true for my covenant with the Levitical priests who minister before me.

For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.As it is written in the Scriptures,‘ They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.

They will ask the way to Jerusalem and will start back home again. They will bind themselves to the Lord with an eternal covenant that will never be forgotten.

For my people will serve the Lord their God and their king descended from David— the king I will raise up for them.

I have sworn an oath to David, and in my holiness I cannot lie:His dynasty will go on forever; his kingdom will endure as the sun.It will be as eternal as the moon, my faithful witness in the sky!” Interlude

“ Now go and say to my servant David,‘ This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel.I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before your eyes. Now I will make your name as famous as anyone who has ever lived on the earth!And I will provide a homeland for my people Israel, planting them in a secure place where they will never be disturbed. Evil nations won’t oppress them as they’ve done in the past,starting from the time I appointed judges to rule my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies.“‘ Furthermore, the Lord declares that he will make a house for you— a dynasty of kings!For when you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his kingdom strong.He is the one who will build a house— a temple— for my name. And I will secure his royal throne forever.I will be his father, and he will be my son. If he sins, I will correct and discipline him with the rod, like any father would do.But my favor will not be taken from him as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from your sight.Your house and your kingdom will continue before me for all time, and your throne will be secure forever.’”So Nathan went back to David and told him everything the Lord had said in this vision.

“ Is it not my family God has chosen? Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with me. His agreement is arranged and guaranteed in every detail. He will ensure my safety and success.

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds,“ Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!

Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.”

“ But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.

For Moses writes that the law’s way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of its commands.
