“ And now what do I have here?” declares the Lord.“ For my people have been taken away for nothing, and those who rule them mock,” declares the Lord.“ And all day long my name is constantly blasphemed.

“ Now look at what has happened to them,” announces the Lord.“ Once again my people have been taken away. And no one paid anything for them. Those who rule over them brag about it,” announces the Lord.“ All day long without stopping, people speak evil things against my name.

What is this?” asks the Lord.“ Why are my people enslaved again? Those who rule them shout in exultation. My name is blasphemed all day long.

Now therefore, what do I here, saith Jehovah, seeing that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them do howl, saith Jehovah, and my name continually all the day is blasphemed.

So now what have I here”— this is the Lord’s declaration—“ that My people are taken away for nothing? Its rulers wail”— this is the Lord’s declaration—“ and My name is continually blasphemed all day long.

I acted for the sake of my reputation, so that I would not be profaned before the nations among whom they lived, before whom I revealed myself by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

But when they arrived in the nations where they went, they profaned my holy name. It was said of them,‘ These are the people of the LORD, yet they have departed from his land.’I was concerned for my holy reputation which the house of Israel profaned among the nations where they went.“ Therefore say to the house of Israel,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: It is not for your sake that I am about to act, O house of Israel, but for the sake of my holy reputation which you profaned among the nations where you went.I will magnify my great name that has been profaned among the nations, that you have profaned among them. The nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the sovereign LORD, when I magnify myself among you in their sight.

I acted for the sake of my reputation, so that I would not be profaned before the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

before the vindictive enemy who ridicules and insults me.

I will put it into the hand of your tormentors who said to you,‘ Lie down, so we can walk over you.’ You made your back like the ground, and like the street for those who walked over you.”

During that long period of time the king of Egypt died, and the Israelites groaned because of the slave labor. They cried out, and their desperate cry because of their slave labor went up to God.God heard their groaning, God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob,

I was angry at my people; I defiled my special possession and handed them over to you. You showed them no mercy; you even placed a very heavy burden on old people.

By the rivers of Babylon we sit down and weep when we remember Zion.On the poplars in her midst we hang our harps,

They have heard that I groan, yet there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have brought it about. Bring about the day of judgment that you promised so that they may end up like me!ת( Tav)

How long, O God, will the adversary hurl insults? Will the enemy blaspheme your name forever?

In fierce anger he destroyed the whole army of Israel. He withdrew his right hand as the enemy attacked. He was like a raging fire in the land of Jacob; it consumed everything around it.ד( Dalet)

“ The people of Israel are like scattered sheep which lions have chased away. First the king of Assyria devoured them. Now last of all King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon has gnawed their bones.

On that day,” says the LORD,“ a loud cry will go up from the Fish Gate, wailing from the city’s newer district, and a loud crash from the hills.

The young men perform menial labor; boys stagger from their labor.The elders are gone from the city gate; the young men have stopped playing their music.Our hearts no longer have any joy; our dancing is turned to mourning.

For this is what the LORD says:“ You were sold for nothing, and you will not be redeemed for money.”

I know where you live and everything you do and how you rage against me.

Remember how the enemy hurls insults, O LORD, and how a foolish nation blasphemes your name!

You sold your people for a pittance; you did not ask a high price for them.

and they made the Israelites serve rigorously.They made their lives bitter by hard service with mortar and bricks and by all kinds of service in the fields. Every kind of service the Israelites were required to give was rigorous.The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah,“ When you assist the Hebrew women in childbirth, observe at the delivery: If it is a son, kill him, but if it is a daughter, she may live.”

As they approached Micah’s house, they recognized the accent of the young Levite. So they stopped there and said to him,“ Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? What is your business here?”

‘ What right do you have to be here? What relatives do you have buried here? Why do you chisel out a tomb for yourself here? He chisels out his burial site in an elevated place, he carves out his tomb on a cliff.

Isaiah said to them,“ Tell your master this:‘ This is what the LORD says:“ Don’t be afraid because of the things you have heard– these insults the king of Assyria’s servants have hurled against me.

Rise up, O God! Defend your honor! Remember how fools insult you all day long!Do not disregard what your enemies say, or the unceasing shouts of those who defy you.

Your children faint; they lie at the head of every street like an antelope in a snare. They are left in a stupor by the LORD’s anger, by the battle cry of your God.

The LORD said,“ I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt. I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.
