勇士所攘奪、豈能脫之乎、強者所俘獲、豈能救之乎、

郇民有言曰、猛士虜人、豈能脫乎、強者獲俘、豈能救乎。

Can plunder be taken from warriors, or captives be rescued from the fierce?

Can goods that were stolen by soldiers be taken away from them? Can prisoners be set free from the powerful Babylonians?

Can the prey be taken from the mighty, or the captives of a tyrant be rescued?

Who can snatch the plunder of war from the hands of a warrior? Who can demand that a tyrant let his captives go?

Can the prey be taken from a mighty man, or the captives of a tyrant be delivered?

Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, Or the captives of the righteous be delivered?

Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captives be delivered?

Can the prey be taken from the mighty, or the captives of the righteous be delivered?

Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?

Can spoils be taken from a warrior, or captives be rescued from a conqueror?

Shall the plunder be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captives be delivered?

Or, how can anyone enter the strong man’s house and carry off his property, unless he first ties up the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.

When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are secure.But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, that man takes away his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder.

Blessed be the Lord, Who has not given us to be torn by their teeth.Our souls have escaped like a bird from the trapper’s snare; The snare is broken and we have escaped.

However, You are righteous in everything that has happened to us; For You have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly.

Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the plunder with the strong, Because He poured out His life unto death, And was counted with wrongdoers; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the wrongdoers.

For we are slaves; yet in our bondage our God has not abandoned us, but has extended favor to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us reviving to erect the house of our God, to restore its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.

Then He said to me,“ Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered,“ Lord God, You Yourself know.”

When the Lord brought back the captives of Zion, We were like those who dream.Then our mouth was filled with laughter And our tongue with joyful shouting; Then they said among the nations,“ The Lord has done great things for them.”The Lord has done great things for us; We are joyful.

And its abundant produce is for the kings Whom You have set over us because of our sins; They also rule over our bodies And over our cattle as they please, So we are in great distress.

This entire land will be a place of ruins and an object of horror, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon for seventy years.‘ Then it will be when seventy years are completed I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation,’ declares the Lord,‘ for their wrongdoing, and the land of the Chaldeans; and I will make it an everlasting desolation.I will bring upon that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, all that is written in this book which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations.( For many nations and great kings will make slaves of them, even them; and I will repay them according to their deeds and according to the work of their hands.)’ ”

But this is a people plundered and pillaged; All of them are trapped in caves, Or are hidden away in prisons; They have become plunder, with no one to save them, And spoils with no one to say,“ Give them back!”

Then He said to me,“ Son of man, these bones are the entire house of Israel; behold, they say,‘ Our bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off.’

And after everything that has come upon us for our evil deeds and our great guilt, since You our God have spared us by inflicting less than our wrongdoing deserves, and have given us such an escaped remnant as this,

and do not follow other gods to serve them and to worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the work of your hands, then I will do you no harm.’Yet you have not listened to Me,” declares the Lord,“ in order to provoke Me to anger with the work of your hands to your own harm.“ Therefore this is what the Lord of armies says:‘ Because you have not obeyed My words,behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,’ declares the Lord,‘ and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land and against its inhabitants and against all these surrounding nations; and I will completely destroy them and make them an object of horror and hissing, and an everlasting place of ruins.
