And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee.Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that[ men] may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and[ that] their kings[ may be] brought.

The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he[ was] unto her.And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews.Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Esther. So Esther arose, and stood before the king,And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing[ seem] right before the king, and I[ be] pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which[ are] in all the king’s provinces:For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews.Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king’s name, and seal[ it] with the king’s ring: for the writing which is written in the king’s name, and sealed with the king’s ring, may no man reverse.Then were the king’s scribes called at that time in the third month, that[ is], the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth[ day] thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces which[ are] from India unto Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus’ name, and sealed[ it] with the king’s ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback,[ and] riders on mules, camels,[ and] young dromedaries:

For since the beginning of the world[ men] have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee,[ what] he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.

Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God.

And ye shall know that I[ am] in the midst of Israel, and[ that] I[ am] the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.

Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?

Let the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God in his place.Moreover I make a decree what ye shall do to the elders of these Jews for the building of this house of God: that of the king’s goods,[ even] of the tribute beyond the river, forthwith expenses be given unto these men, that they be not hindered.And that which they have need of, both young bullocks, and rams, and lambs, for the burnt offerings of the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the appointment of the priests which[ are] at Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail:That they may offer sacrifices of sweet savours unto the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons.Also I have made a decree, that whosoever shall alter this word, let timber be pulled down from his house, and being set up, let him be hanged thereon; and let his house be made a dunghill for this.And the God that hath caused his name to dwell there destroy all kings and people, that shall put to their hand to alter[ and] to destroy this house of God which[ is] at Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree; let it be done with speed.

All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth.

As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for[ that] which had not been told them shall they see; and[ that] which they had not heard shall they consider.

And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which[ was] in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.

Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which[ is] in Judah.Who[ is there] among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which[ is] in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel,( he[ is] the God,) which[ is] in Jerusalem.And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that[ is] in Jerusalem.

Now this[ is] the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe,[ even] a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect[ peace], and at such a time.I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and[ of] his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which[ is] in thine hand;And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation[ is] in Jerusalem,And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which[ is] in Jerusalem:That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which[ is] in Jerusalem.And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God,[ those] deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow[ it] out of the king’s treasure house.And I,[ even] I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which[ are] beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing[ how much].Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that[ is] in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that[ are] beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know[ them] not.And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether[ it be] unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.Blessed[ be] the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put[ such a thing] as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which[ is] in Jerusalem:And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king’s mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God[ was] upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.

And the king said unto me,( the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah;And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which[ appertained] to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.Then I came to the governors beyond the river, and gave them the king’s letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me.When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard[ of it], it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
