亞述列王之待諸國、施行翦滅、爾既聞之、而爾能得免乎、

爾亦聞亞述前王、至於今、皆以翦滅列國是務、而爾獨獲救乎、

亞述列王、如何待列國、如何翦滅列國、爾亦必聞之、獨爾能得免乎、

Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries, destroying them completely. And will you be delivered?

I’m sure you have heard about what the kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries. They have destroyed them completely. So do you think you will be saved?

Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, devoting them to destruction. And shall you be delivered?

You know perfectly well what the kings of Assyria have done wherever they have gone. They have completely destroyed everyone who stood in their way! Why should you be any different?

Look, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries: they completely destroyed them. Will you be rescued?

Behold, you yourself have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the lands, destroying them completely. So will you be saved?

Look! You have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by utterly destroying them; and shall you be delivered?

Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered?

Certainly you have heard how the kings of Assyria have annihilated all lands. Do you really think you will be rescued?

你們要小心，免得希西家慫恿你們說：耶和華必拯救我們。列國的神有哪一位曾拯救自己的國土脫離亞述王的手呢？哈馬和亞珥拔的神在哪裡呢？西法瓦音的神在哪裡呢？他們曾拯救撒瑪利亞脫離我的手嗎？這些國所有的神中，有哪一個曾拯救自己的國土脫離我的手呢？難道耶和華能拯救耶路撒冷脫離我的手嗎？’”

後來，亞述王發覺何細亞陰謀反叛：他曾派使者去見埃及王梭，並且不再向亞述王獻上貢物，像過去每年一樣。亞述王就拿住他，把他囚在牢裡。亞述王上來攻擊以色列全國各地，並且到撒瑪利亞來，圍城三年。何細亞在位第九年，亞述王佔領了撒瑪利亞，把以色列人擄到亞述去，安置他們在哈臘，在哈博河和歌散河一帶，以及在瑪代人的各城。

耶和華啊！亞述列王果然使列國和他們的土地變成荒涼，又把列國的神都扔進火中；因為他們不是神，只是人手所做的，不過是木頭和石頭，所以他們就滅絕了他們。

但亞述並沒有這樣想過，他心裡也沒有這樣打算；他心裡倒想毀滅、剪除多國。因為他說：“在我手下的眾領袖不都是王嗎？迦勒挪不是像迦基米施嗎？哈瑪不是像亞珥拔嗎？撒瑪利亞不是像大馬士革嗎？我的手伸展到這些充滿偶像的國，他們雕刻的像比耶路撒冷和撒瑪利亞的還多。我怎樣對待撒瑪利亞和其中的偶像，不也照樣對待耶路撒冷和其中的偶像嗎？”主在錫安山和耶路撒冷成全了他一切工作的時候，他必說：我要懲罰亞述王自大的心所結的果子，和他眼目高傲的態度。因為他說：“我靠著我手的能力和我的智慧行事，因為我很聰明；我挪移了列國的地界，搶奪了他們積蓄的財寶，並且我像個勇士般使他們的居民全都俯伏下來。我的手伸到列國的財寶那裡，好像抓到鳥窩一樣；我取得了全地，好像人拾起被棄的雀蛋；沒有動翅膀的，沒有張嘴的，也沒有鳴叫的。”

使世界如同荒野，傾覆城鎮，又不釋放囚犯的，就是這人嗎？’

列國的神真能解救他們的國土脫離亞述王的手嗎？哈馬和亞珥拔的神在哪裡呢？西法瓦音、希拿和以瓦的神在哪裡呢？他們可以解救撒瑪利亞脫離我的手嗎？這些國家所有的神，有哪一個曾解救他自己的國家脫離我的手呢？難道耶和華能解救耶路撒冷脫離我的手嗎？’”
